Well, we have exact figures for three countries to compare:

United Kingdom 500,000+

Canada 185,000+

United States 1,411,000

The United Kingdom is roughly 5 times smaller than the United States and Canada is 10 times smaller, in terms of population.

UK sales of 500,000 would be the equilavent of 2,500,000 in the United States after only 3 weeks! This is amazing!

Canadian sales of 185,000 would be the equilavent of 1,850,000 in the United States.

Of course the US figure stands at 1,411,000.

Canada usually beats the United States by 2 to 1 in per capita sales, but here the United States is very close to the Canadian total on a per capita basis.

The real surprise is the United Kingdom which has sold nearly twice as many copies of the "Bomb" as the United States has. It is also beating the usual champ among the three, Canada, by a 30% margin.

You can add Australia to this list. It sold 48k, 24k and 28k respectively in first 3 weeks for 100k total. Australia's population is about 19 million so works out to equivalent of 1,579,000 in US sales.

Oooh.... Australian sales figures! Where did you get the weekly numbers? Will you have access to them a lot?

Interesting thread

But I'm assuming Ireland is taking the cake?

I have not heard exact numbers for Ireland, but it did have the highest initial shipment rate of any country, going 5 times platinum(75,000) before the album was released. That is one album for every 53 people in Ireland!

The Australian sales figures come from a site with the address of undercover.com.au Usually on Mondays they have a re-cap of the charts and list sales figures from a few artists.
