New Certifications in the United Kingdom for U2!

The Best of 1990-2000 has hit the double platinum mark in the United Kingdom! Double Platinum in the United Kingdom is 600,000 in sales. By comparison though on a per capita basis, this would be the same as going triple platinum in the USA for 3 million in sales.

The Best of 1980-1990 hit 5 times platinum(1,500,000 in sales) in the United Kingdom back in November of last year.

Do you have anymore sales figures on their other albums? It would be interesting to see what was popular across the ocean.....

Hello,

Here is a list of the certifications from the UK. I've only included the highest certification of a certain title. The UK also has a Silver certification, this is for the sale of 60,000 copies. Gold is for 100,000 copies and Platinum indicates that the record has sold 300,000 copies. Take also notice of the latest certification date of a certain title, some certifications are more than 15 years old, so who knows what the actual number is...

Remember that the platinum certification in the United Kingdom is 300,000 copies which is 50% higher per capita than the USA level of 1 million for platinum. Platinum in the UK is the equilevant of selling 1.5 million in the USA, based on per capita levels.

Also, not mentioned in the above sales totals is the fact that ATYCLB did hit the triple platinum mark in the United Kingdom.

I've read this news here before. Strangely, the BPI site does not mention this certification. Their latest ATYCLB certification is from December 2002 even though the certifications are as recent as this year. So the question remains, did ATYCLB reach triple platinum or not in the UK?

C ya!

Marty (who thinks the album did)

ATYCLB in the UK

Yes, it did reach triple platinum, and has sold over 1 million copies in the UK alone. I estimate (because copies in the UK for this CD are numbered) they are very near 4 x platinum - as the versions in stores are numbered between 1,200,000 - 1,330,000.

Best Of 90-2000 - is the double certification for combined sales of both CDs (therefore including the double CD version) ?

Mike63 is right, I checked the BPI site and ATYCLB was certified triple platinum in June 2001, here's the link:
