Wasn´t that the case for AB too?
Back in 1991, vinyls were still very popular.

With respect to JT doing better than AB on the catalogue chart...don't forget that unlike AB the initial sales were all on vinyl and cassette. Many like myself replaced our LP or cassette with the CD version.
 
JT gets way more radio airplay than AB.........that's what it all comes down to, really.
