Joshua Tree Chart Positions!

As you can see from this, the Joshua Tree's sales in Canada were just simply amazing. This might have even defeated Ireland on a per capita basis. On a per capita basis, more than 3 times that of the USA.

I thought I would give this a bump since many questions are being raised about how successful Joshua Tree was and what it sold.
 
So AB was no.1 in America for 1 week, and still managed to be in top 10 for quite a while.

Do we have any European info on AB? How did ATYCLB compared to these two?

I'd have to do some research to get all of AB's statistics on this issue. I do know that in the first year of release, both Achtung Baby and ATYCLB sold 10 million copies. But, the break down for USA sales vs. outside of the USA sales for Achtung Baby was 4.5 million USA, 5.5 million outside USA. For ATYCLB, it was 3 million USA, 7 million outside the USA.

To date, Achtung Baby has sold 17 million worldwide and ATYCLB has sold 12 million worldwide. Achtung Baby of course has been available on the market for 9 years longer than ATYCLB.

A French person (well, he's from France and writes like he's from France) mentioned this in the "French Thread : Charts, sales, certifications etc..." Chart Analysis Forum at ukmix.com. He said :

"...U2's Joshua Tree isn't Diamond but sold probably 2 millions (20 weeks at #1). U2 is clearly under-certified in France."

Whether he's right or not I don't know. But, Joshua Tree HAS sold 2M in France, he's a regular Chart Analysis poster who seems to know a bit about chart info, and he seems to be French. So overall I kind of trust that he's right.

BTW - You may already know this but in today's album chart Joshua Tree would have been #1 for first 4, straight, weeks in UK. This is because it was kept off the top by a compilation in it's 3rd & 4th week. Since Jan 1989 there has been a separate chart for compilations.

Swisscharts.com has all the information on every album and single to chart there since 1968.
 
I've just found the following chart run for Joshua Tree in France - it's from SNEP which is the offical chart company since 1985 (I think) :

So, it seems JT DID spend 20 weeks at # 1 in France - amazing!

Can't beat ireland, I lookeed at the Tesco charts and Joshua Tree is back in the top 25, along with 2 other albums and the 2 greatest hits, come on joshua tree back to number one you go.
 
i'm sorry if this is an impossible qustion to answer, but can anyone give a rough estimate of how many total units of JT have been sold since it came ou tin 1987?

also, what IS u2's biggest selling record?

Joshua Tree is U2's biggest selling album.
 
Joshua Tree only spent 2 week at No. 1 in the UK because it was Knocked off the top by a compilation album. Back then compilation albums were allowed to chart on thE Uk Album Chart. Since 1989 they havn't. If Compilation albums weren't allowed to chart back when JT was released, it would have spent 4 weeks at No. 1 rather than 2.
