Many thanks to a member of UKmix for this information. Up until earlier this year Platinum was 100k (now 80k) so this goes to show just how popular U2 are in Italy (VERY).
Some of these numbers are a little odd though... for instance i remember seeing an end of year chart for 1998 with Best of 80-90 quoted at 600k at that time... But most of these seem about right.

Achtung Baby - [2] 600.000

The Best Of 1980-1990 - [1] 600.000

The Best Of 1980-1990 is the strongest catalog seller, followed by The Best of 1990-2000 and The Joshua Tree!
Boy, October, War didn't chart at the time of their realease; they surely sold something in catalog but not big numbers!

The sales for the other records are about:
Boy: 120.000
October: 120.000
War: 340.000
UABRS: 370.000

Total of the sales is approsimately of 6.150.000 copies, very good for a stranger band in a nation where the market is much less strongly than in UK, for example.
Since The Joshua Tree every album has peaked at n. 1.
Some other information: The Joshua Tree stayed at n. 1 for one week, R&H for six weeks, AB probably for one, Zooropa for three, Pop for two, ATYCLB for three and HTDAAB for two.
Best Of 80/90 and 90/00 has reached n. one but at the momento I don't now for how many weeks.

For a wealthy country of nearly 60 million people, I am shocked that platinum is only 100,000. I also find the sales levels rather disappointing considering Italy is often regarded as the most popular country for U2 after Ireland.

Canada with half the population has the same platinum level of 100,000 for albums. Also, on a per capita basis, Canada, the United Kingdom and United States have much higher sales.

How sure are you about the accuracy of these sales figures from Italy? Are these shipment figures certified by an auditing firm in Italy? If so, what are the dates for certification?

I think Italy has approximately the same population as UK but the amount of records sold there is NOWHERE NEAR that. In fact, Canada (half the population) is a bigger market, and Australia is roughly the same size music market as Italy.
So the results are very good. It's very easy to go platinum in some countries (Canada, Australia, UK) but quite difficult in a lot of European countries as the levels are set higher per capita.

What is UKmix? Are these official figures or some estimates from a forum? Is it possible to get figures for Germany too?

UKMix is a chart forum...
These figures came from an inside source who has been posting sales figures for lots of various artists.
In regards to Germany, I havent' seen anything on there except for certifications.
