Hello,

Yes, another thread about the album results in week 5. Hopefully all information can be condensed in this thread. This way it'll be easier to find all information of week 5. :)

For starters, here's the Dutch info:
Usually, there isn't a chart published in the week between Christmas and New Year. It is then the time for the year-end round-ups, etc. However, for some reason, this week does see a new album chart (and a sort of singles chart, but more about that later). So, here are the results of the Dutch charts. The charts are compiled by the Mega Charts (http://www.megacharts.nl).
After two weeks at #1, How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb dropped 1 position in the next two weeks. This week, the trend continues as the album drops another position to #4. Unfortunately, nothing is known about any possible sales figures, nor about its relative performance. :| In any case, it's still in the top 5 and maybe will rise the coming weeks as 2 of the albums above it are greatest hits packages.
Here is the chart run for How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb (29-11-2004)
1-1-2-3-4

There's also a new singles chart, but with a twist. As I stated in the introduction, it common to have year-end round-ups in the week between Christmas and New Year. However, this year the Dutch were also bombarded with the TV show Popstars The Rivals (where there is a search for a boy- and girlband who then have to compete for the #1 position in the singles chart). Not only was it the #1 position the two groups were competing for, but it was even the Christmas #1 position. Because of this, a singles chart was published. But there's also another difference. The regular chart that gets published is also partly based on airplay. The sales-only chart usually isn't publised and is only used as a resource for the industry. Since Popstars The Rivals did look at the sales-only chart, this is the one that gets published.
Are you still with me? OK then, some U2 results then. As expected, Vertigo keeps dropping. On the sales-only chart it drops to 23 (from 20 last week on the sales-only chart) in its 7th week. You can see this differs a bit from the regular chart, but not much. Therefor, I will keep this number in the chart. However, if on next week's regular chart Vertigo will also be noted as having spent 7 weeks on the charts, then that result will replace this week's chart result (for continuity reasons). In any case, Vertigo is slowly fading away, making room for Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own, which will be released in early February.

*from the sales-only chart (down from #20 the week previous)

For the singles, there is a year-end chart. On that one Vertigo reached #39. This is based on the 6 weeks it spend on the Mega Top 50. Not too bad considering it's the highest song that has spent 6 weeks or less on the charts and only 2 songs charted higher that had spent 7 weeks on the chart. The #1 single of 2004 is Dragostea Din Tei by O-Zone (a summer hit from a Rumanian act (IIRC) of all places).

The current #1 album is Hotel New York by Anouk. The current #1 single (based on sales only) is Bigger Than That by Popstars The Rivals boyband Men2B (apparently also a name of a type of cancer :eyebrow: ).

C ya!

Doc.. just a couple of mistakes I noticed. a) you missed the 5th week numbers for Japan - think they were arond 11,700 or so.
b) for the world chart... the first week was #39, and the third week it dropped to #2 before regaining the top spot.

Thanks for the summary!

Thanks WhyWhy for the good eyes!

Here's the summaries again, with corrections.

Still have that discrepancy of 69 copies in the U.S. (between SoundScan's totals on a chart Soldatti posted and adding up the numbers) and missing weekly sales numbers for Canada and the U.K. for this past week.

je hebt het toch over de top40? Daar is vertigo op 37 binnengekomen en naar 2 gestegen. of heb je het over de mega top 50?

No, I'm looking at the Mega Top 50 for the singles charts. I think that chart is a bit more accurate sales-wise as it is less reliant on airplay. Less than the Top 40 at least.
