this is not getting to 90.000

too early...Green Day's American Idot for example was to sell in excess of 250k copies according to hits while with 37k at 20% the projection is about 180k.

Where are the sales?

7 of the 8 stores on the Hits site have reported 100% of their sales, and HTDAAB is only on one Top 10 Album Sales list...#10 at Borders, I think. That's about the same as the last month or so, and the online sales are hovering around #10, too. Not sure that U2 will be getting near the Grammy sales boost as was predicted.

All the more reason to get a cohesive singles strategy in order for the U.S. Canada seems to chart U2 songs no matter where they are released. Even so, looking at charts around the world lately have shown me that crap music, with few exceptions, is ruling the airwaves almost everywhere. As bad as it is, imagine (or don't - be careful) what it would be like with NO U2...

Wow, we're getting upset with less than half the sales in ...

We all know how drastically things can change. You can't just take the figure at 35%, project it out, and expect it to hold true for 100%.

well here in UK the album has climed 3 weeks running and is back into the top 10 and in a local shop it is back into the top 5 so its flying here!

Funny thing that nobody posting in this thread is an american...that might show you something about the U2 fanbase.

well what about with 48.49% in and just 21.155 sold?
and what about Green Day with only 47k copies and 48% in when Hits predicted 250k copies? wait for the definitive numbers.

HITS could also be way off for all albums. So no 90K for U2, but no 250K for Green Day/Ray Charles either. But it's still possible that they had higher sales than the week previous.

See, they just doubled their sales within the last 20%! Not too shabby. And I'm an American ;)

With 81.48% in:
3 1 GREEN DAY AMERICAN IDIOT 182,325
15 2 RAY CHARLES GENIUS LOVES COMPANY 171,301
2 3 THE GAME THE DOCUMENTARY 101,366
14 4 GRAMMY NOMINEES 2005 100,839
10 5 USHER CONFESSIONS 99,171
...
37 21 U2 HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB 49,904

Definately no 90K (but no 250K either for Green Day or Ray Charles), so Hits seemed to be way off last week with their predictions. However, U2 will have a significant rise in both position and sales. :)

It’s Shaping up to Be a Close, Close Battle Between Ray Charles and Green Day

February 22, 2005

(Update revises sales projections throughout.)
Looks like the Genius will top the Idiot on this week’s album chart.

As the numbers continue to come in and be crunched and the chart slowly falls together, Ray Charles’ Genius Loves Company (Concord), looks like it's headed for a weekly sales total of 215-220k, representing a post-Grammy spike of around 190%.

Green Day’s American Idiot (Reprise), meanwhile, is expected to see a gain of around 60% to 210-215k, meaning the two are still battling it out for #1.

These numbers (as well as those to follow) are significantly lower than those previously projected, but the latter half of the week turned soft, and, well, stuff happens.

Other major Grammy spikes to watch include megaseller Usher’s Confessions (LaFace/ZLG), which is shaping up for a 26% gain to around 110-115k, and the Grammy Nominees 2005 set (Capitol), up 45% to around 110k-115k.

Also: Maroon 5, up around 35% to 75-80k; Alicia Keys, up around 50% to 70-75k; Gwen Stefani, up around 11% to 63-65k; John Mayer, up around 94% to 60-62k; U2, up around 45% to 56k; Los Lonely Boys, up around 100% to 53k; Kanye West, expected to rise a whopping 200% to 46-47k; and Tim McGraw, up around 33% to 48k.

Hits says 56,000 which means Soundscan will probably have about a 60,000 figure for the "BOMB" this week.

The week after U2's prior Grammy weeks for ATYCLB saw sales of 85,000(2001) and 81,000(2002). The thing is, those awards were broadcasts on a Thursday instead of a Sunday, so we should consider the following weeks sales as well which were 74,000(2001) and 56,000(2002).

On HITS "BOMB" has the 6th largest increase of any album with 41%. Keys and Mayer had larger increases which was not predicted.

I think total soundscan sales for "BOMB" in the USA are around 2,470,000 now, but will wait for Soldatti to give us the true figures.

I sure hope Soldatti gets SoundScan numbers this week. The chart always reports last week's numbers (which we didn't get) and it'd be nice to see the increase. Given that ATYCLB won 2 huge awards and only increased to 85K (after floating around 50K) I didn't think HTDAAB would have the huge increase early predictions stated. But it's nice to see some increase. Now that the public is well aware of "Sometimes..." I think it's best U2 release that single now. ABoY is over on the Modern Rock charts and is even falling on the "Bubbling Under" charts. Unless it gets some inexplicable push, it's pretty much over. They should push "Sometimes..." now and take advantage of the SNL and Grammy performances where people saw the song twice. Plus, this song has cross-over potential. It probably won't do anything on the Modern Rock charts, but that's O.K., "Vertigo" and ABoY both were hits there. Let "Sometimes..." cross-over onto the adult charts and really push HTDAAB.

I agree with the Dr. "Sometimes" could be a huge hit on the adult charts. This single could bring HTDAAB to the attention of quite a few more people. Simply put, U2 need to release the video in the U.S. The video is amazing, and "Sometimes" has the powerful, emotional, lyrical genius that reminds listeners of "One." "Sometimes" could be a massive single.

Right on, East Bay Fan. By the way, welcome to the forum known as the "chart watchers". I agree with Dr. Who on his many posts regarding ABOY - it's a good little rocking tune, but I just don't think it was the right song to release after Vertigo, and I also disagree with the ideas of different releases in different countries at the same time.

It's a Global music scene, and Canada is the perfect example of that, as ABOY, Vertigo, and Sometimes all charted high there last week.

The strategy of different releases at different times is confusing, plus U2 plays "Sometimes" at the Grammies, and radio then chooses to play a little of everything rather than promote one song/single at a time.

By the way, Yahweh, I beLIEve the Doctor, myself, and East Bay Fan are all Americans who are posting in this thread and are regular viewers/posters in the "Peeling off those dollar bills" forum. Guess I could change my location from "Stuck in a Giant Lemon" back to reality...too hard for me NOT to be sarcastic I guess.
