BeLIEve,

Since you have access to Billboard.com, I wanted to know if you could go to the BOXSCORE or TOP CONCERTS chart and get all the information for the Pittsburgh, Houston, and Dallas Vertigo Tour shows. Billboard.com post only the top 10 concerts each week and these 3 shows did not make the top 10 this week and probably just fell outside of it. The chart usually has the top 40 or 50 shows, but only the top 10 is available to non-subscribers. If you can post the information here for those three shows that would be great!

THANKS!

Here you go STING2

Here are the numbers your requested, coming in at #'s 12, 13, and 14 on the Boxscore chart:

Artist,Event/Venue/City,State/Event Dates/Gross Sales/Attendance/Capacity/Shows/Sellouts/Prices/Promoters

U2, Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley/American Airlines Center/Dallas, Texas/Oct. 29, 2005/$1,689,471/17,988/17,988/1/1/$160, $49.50/The Next Adventure/PACE Concerts

U2, Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley/Mellon Arena/Pittsburgh, Pa./Oct. 22, 2005/$1,636,798/16,899/16,899/1/1/$160, $49.50/The Next Adventure/Belkin Productions

Why are you always looking for bad things about U2? I wish you'd leave this forum and go find some other band to pick on.

And to answer your question, no, it's not bad! :madspit:

THANKS BeLIEve! Its possible that in the coming weeks this situation may happen again, where one or two U2 shows that are only single shows in one city do not make the top 10 because the top 10 is cluttered with multi show stops in one city by top artist including U2 with GROSS totals that are in excess of 2 million.

Thanks again for reporting the information!

BeLIEve,

The numbers for the November 25, 2005 Ottawa Vertigo show at the Corel Centre did not make Billboards top 10 Boxscore at the website. We'd appreciate it if you could use your membership to the site to get the statistics for this show as you did previously for the Dallas, Houston, and Pittsburgh shows which did not make the top 10 in the week they were released.

Thanks!

Only one of the final 10 shows did not make the BOXSCORE top 10 at Billboard.com, this was the Omaha Nebraska show on December 15, 2005 at the Qwest Center. We'd really appreciate it if you could get the Boxscore figure for this show!

THANKS!

beLIEve,

I wanted to know if you could post any Rolling Stone concert listed in this weeks Boxscore chart from Billboard. I can see the ones in the top 10, but wonder if there are any others that did not make the top 10. Here are the ones that we already have information for:

Tokyo, Japan
New York, N.Y.
Buenos Aires, Argentina
Chicago, Ill.
Mexico City, Mexico
Sydney, Australia
Boston, Mass.

If there are any other Rolling Stones Boxscores on this weeks chart in Billboard, it would be great if you could post them.

THANKS!

It was time, Billboard reports some Rolling Stones numbers of this year with mixed results. The US numbers are "low" in some venues (only 13k in Chicago) and high in others (Argentina, Australia).
A whole summary of reported dates of this tour would be great, I think that Billboard reported 25-30 dates of 2005 early this year.

THANKS beLIEve!!!!

This is a lot of good info on that tour!

The Rolling Stones made a cool $94,038,439 dollars from their spring leg of the Bigger Bang Tour with 30 shows around the world. The Bigger Bang Tour has now GROSSED a total of $256,038,439 dollars around the world from 72 shows in 2005 and 2006. The European tour has been postponed and several shows have been completely cancelled. The Rolling Stones planned to play 35 shows in Europe this summer and most shows had gone on sell although many had not soldout. Two shows, Dublin and Belgrade never went on sale. Of the remaining 33 shows, only 21 have been reschedualed at this point. It appears several of the remaining 12 shows will probably be cancelled. There is talk of more shows being added in the United States and Asia, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

So far this is how U2's Vertigo Tour stacks up against the Rolling Stones A Bigger Bang Tour WORLDWIDE:

VERTIGO TOUR
GROSS: $333,206,884
ATTENDANCE: 3,983,650
SHOWS: 118

A BIGGER BANG TOUR
GROSS: $256,038,439
ATTENDANCE: 1,995,071
SHOWS: 72

Notes: Every U2 show has soldout! Nearly every U2 show soldout the day it was put on sell! At least half a dozen if not more, Rolling Stones shows have not soldout. Of those that did sellout, many were slow sellers. In addition, the Rolling Stones are not attempting to sell seats behind the stage at their arena shows.

Several of the Upcoming Rolling Stones shows in Europe have not soldout despite having been on sell for over 6 months. Every U2 show in Europe soldout within hours of going on sell. The Rolling Stones are currently booked for 21 more shows on this tour, while U2 is booked to play 10 more shows on the Vertigo tour. The remaining 10 U2 shows for the Vertigo tour will likely be the last ones for the tour. It is expected that the Rolling Stones will add some more shows in Europe, United States and Asia.

But, without the addition of any more shows to the ones currently booked, the Stones would likely finish out with a GROSS of $360 million dollars, while U2 will likely finish out the Vertigo Tour with a GROSS of $385 million dollars. U2 has more total shows, but a much higher percentage of them were in Arena's in North America. The Rolling Stones may have played less shows so far, but they have done more in Stadiums.

Once again though, nearly every U2 show has soldout within hours of going on sale around the world, while most Rolling Stone shows have been slow sellers and many shows have not soldout. It is obvious that U2 could have done a much larger tour than this and GROSSED far more. The Rolling Stones seemed to have maxed out in several markets although there are certainly more places they could add shows, and it appears they plan to for the fall.

U2 have no plans to add more shows to the tour and will likely finish the tour with just the 10 remaining shows. The Stones have 21 shows booked and will probably had several more for the fall. Since U2 plans to stop with these 10 shows, the Rolling Stones will likely be able to surpass the Vertigo GROSS if they do tour in the Fall after their European Tour, but only because U2 decided to stop. Despite this, the Vertigo tour will have the higher attendance figure coming in at around 4.5 million people. The Stones attendance provided they do tour in the Fall will probably come in at around 3.8 million. Both tours will probably finish with a similar number of total shows, perhaps 123 for the Stones and there will be 128 total for U2's Vertigo.

From what I have seen so far, I'd say worldwide U2 is now ahead of the Stones in overall concert demand. If that is really the case, it will be the first time since perhaps the early 1970s that the Stones have not been the most in demand band on the road worldwide. U2 has essentially been the #2 most in demand band on the road since 1987, right behind the Stones.

Still, the Stones tour has a lot more shows to go, and if Europe proves to be stronger than what I think it is going to turnout like, or the fall leg of the tour is really strong, then this main change the caculation back in the Stones favor.

Great analysis STING.

beLIEve, thanks a lot for the numbers.
Do you have the 42 Stones numbers of 2005 reported on Billboard early this year? I think that the issue dates were January 14 & 21.

As Soldatti already said, that was a great, great anaylsis.
No matter finals numbers for the Bigger bang tours, current figures prove U2 is the most popular band on the planet right now.
They have played only 1/3 additional concerts than the Stones yet the average attendance is twice as much!!

Here is what's shown on this week's Billboard Boxscore....starting with the first Rolling Stones show outside of the Top Ten at #12:

BeLIEve,

Billboard.com has just posted the latest boxscore figures for the week and it appears to be all Rollingstone Figures. Could you once again post the entire Top Concerts Boxcore chart from Billboard listing all the reported shows for the week instead of just the top 10 like the website does for free. I hope you still have your membership.

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!

A BIGGER BANG TOUR
GROSS: $387,137,364
ATTENDANCE: 3,170,432
SHOWS: 98

VERTIGO TOUR
GROSS: $333,206,884
ATTENDANCE: 3,983,650
SHOWS: 118

The Rolling Stones have 17 more shows to go on their tour which is finishing up in North America. U2 have 12 more shows schedualed and are finishing up in Australia/Pacific.

Right now, it looks like the Stones will probably hit the $450 million dollar mark while U2 will come very close or hit the $400 million dollar mark in total GROSS. U2 will probably finish the tour with over 4.5 million in attendance while the Stones will likely hit 3.7 million in attendance.

The Stones results from Europe show that none of their shows soldout except the Norway show which was in an Arena. Still, these shows were mainly in stadiums with still several strong attendance figures and high Grosses. Clearly though, the U2's VERTIGO tour of Europe outpaced the Stones own tour this summer by a wide margin, especially considering all of U2's shows soldout within minutes or hours of going on sell.

Two markets where the Stones are still the king are Japan and the United States it appears. As for the rest of the world, it appears that U2 have passed the Stones by.
