Belgium Chart Positions HTDAAB And ATYCLB

Hello everybody..

I have made a list of chart positions from U2 in Belgium for ATYCLB and HTDAAB
Mind you, that we have 2 different charts in Belgium. We have one for the Dutch speaking part (Flanders) and one for the French speaking part (Wallonie).
In the various threads you'll find here it's always the Charts of the Dutch speaking Part that's mentioned.

Flanders has about 6.000.000 people and Wallonie about 3.000.000. We also have Brussels, our capital, (1.000.000) which is a bit of both.. So I am not sure where these sales are represented?

I have also tried to figure out the sales figures for u2 in Belgium, but unfortunately nobody wants to give them.. (no idea why..)

Charted a week later then Flanders, that's why I put a 0 in the first week.

Btw - On the Flanders chart Bomb is Plat (50K) but, for weeks, I've been trying to work out why its not 2/3/4xPlat as it's chart performance has been amazing! The last estimate was 70-80K from someone from Belgium (I think) - so, based on this I reckon Bomb has sold about 90-95K by now. But I still reckon that's way too low.

That was my estimation...
I have contacted somebody from Universal to ask for the exact number, but she never replied.. So we'll never know.. But it should be close to 100.000 copies..
 
Right, so if you add sales from both charts (Flanders & Wallonie) together then the figure would be more like about 120-180K (2/3/4xPlat) overall, for the whole 10M population of Belgium - Wow! Makes perfect sense then! :wink:

So, let me be more sepecific :

If you now add sales from both charts (Flanders & Wallonie) together then the figure would be more like about 120-170K (2/3/4xPlat) overall : 90-95K in Flanders + 30-75K in Wallonie.

And that does now seem to be a perfect total for the 10M total population of Belgium. Similar to Portugal - but probably a bit more (140-170K).

ps - is there an album chart for the whole of Belgium?

I am not to sure about this. I think that certifications are for the whole of belgium. But to make sure, I have written a mail to ifpi Belgium. hopefully I get an answer..
 
The Platinum certification is only on the Flanders chart so I assume this is only for Flanders.

...anyway I hope you get the answer from IFPI Belgium.

Finally got an answer from Ifpi Belgium...
And unfortunatly the Platinum Certification is for the whole of Belgium.. So still no 100.000 copies sold..

Good that you got a reply & I can believe that HTDAAB has now sold about 90,000 in whole of Belgium. BUT I've now seen both charts & each chart has a Platinum certification for HTDAAB!!

so platinum in belgium is 100'000 ?
i thought htdaab had been doing really well there, and yet it is not platinum yet.
is it dificult to sell 100'000 copies in belgium then?
 
It IS Platinum in Belgium - on BOTH charts!

I think Platinum in Belgium is 50,000 so maybe Bomb is 2xPlatinum - with sales of around 90,000 it certainly should be!

What's about other albums? Do they have all the same certification status on both charts? This might be an indicator if in Belgium exists two different status level or not?

Albums do seem to have the same certification status on both charts eg. Coldplay's X&Y is now also Platinum on both charts.

Actually...no. I've just had another look & Coldplay's AROBTTH has no certification on Flanders chart (after 95 wks on chart) but is 2xPlat on Wallonie chart (after 59 wks on chart). So, I'm not too sure. :confused:
 
ok just got back from Dublin..
croke park show was amazing.. much better then Brussels. It tottally blew me away.. (espacially the sound)

But for belgium.. HTDAAb has sold more than 50.000 albums but less then 100.000.
But I guess it must be close to 100.000.
Once an album sells over 100.000 albums it wel get the 2x platinim certificate in Flanders an Wallonie

Coldplay is 2X platinum in Belgium (Rush of blood) I think it's a mistake in the list, because I searched in the history (a couple weeks back and there it's also certified als 2x platinum in Flanders)
 
So, if AROBTTH is also 2xPlat in Flanders (which it probably is) then it's NOT 4xPlat in whole of Belgium. Right?

If this IS right then I would say Bomb HAS now sold about 90,000 in whole of Belgium & should therefore get certified 2xPlat soon.
