Well, I read somewhere that the Netherlands is the 7th market according to cd/dvd sales. I don't know if this has been posted before but then this is an update. I got this from nvpi. In the Netherlands 40.000 sales is gold, and 80.000 sales is platinum. What I think is interesting is that ATYCLB is double platinum while AB and JT are still platinum.

I don't know the exact sales, but this is an indication.

I think multi-platinum sales in the Netherlands may not have yet been in use when the Joshua Tree came out. I can guareentee you though that the Joshua Tree is U2s biggest selling album in the Netherlands just based on how it did on the album chart. Like RIAA in the USA is updated occasionally when the artist or record company request a new certification for an older album, the same needs to be done in the Netherlands.

One more thing. The Netherlands certification standard of 40,000 copies sold for GOLD and 80,000 copies sold for platinum is the highest on a per capita basis in the world. Netherlands has a population of 16 million people, about half that of Canada and about 5% of the United States. In the United States, GOLD is 500,000 and platinum is a 1,000,000. Canada is 50,000 for GOLD, and 100,000 for platinum. So if the Netherlands were in line with US and Canadian standards for Gold and Platinum, GOLD in the Netherlands would be 25,000 and Platinum would be 50,000. Its harder to go Gold in Platinum in the Netherlands right now than probably any other market in the world just based on the higher certification standard.

Multi-Platinum came out in 1996 only in Netherland. Before 1999, certifications levels are 50k for gold and 100k for Platinum.

Does this mean, one time platinum for best of and one time for best of + b-sides? this surprises me, that means 160,00 albums at least in total. I always thought this best of wasn't doing very well...also that HTDAAB is just gold surprises me!
