I am still waiting to see end of year charts for these countries...

Canada, Denmark, Italy, NZ, Ireland, Sweden but none of the sites are updated yet....
Last year Bomb was #1 for the year in Ireland and #2 in Sweden

Tallarico, I think that the tour announcement and sales would have affected the ABOY position. They also made HTDAAB come back to #68. that, and the fact that ABOY is a pretty radio friendly tune and is getting a good response here.
Just wait til the tour hits here, i am expecting at least 3 albums back in the top 50.

This weeks Musicweek has all the official UK EOY charts & it makes for some interesting reading :

On the best selling artist albums list we already know Bomb ended up # 54 with 348,200 & Best Of 80-90 # 177 with 100,000 - but in the Top 100 best selling singles 'Sometimes...' actually comes in at # 76 (not # 81) &, again, this is without all downloads up to April 23rd 2005. Also :

Top 50 best selling single artists (figures are rounded down to the nearest thousand) :

# 34. U2 with 190,000 (67k for Sometimes + 52k for City + 30k for ABOY + 25k for physical sales only of Vertigo ? + 10k for other ? + 6k for ABOY on import ?)

Last year U2 didn't quite make the list but only because downloads weren't included. If downloads were included then U2 would have been about # 40 with about 150k (101k physical sales for Vertigo + 40k downloads for Vertigo + 10k for other ?)

Top 50 best selling album artists (figures are, again, rounded down to the nearest thousand) :

# 29. U2 with 720,000 (348,200 for Bomb + 100,000 for Best Of 1980-90 + 272,000 for rest of Back Catalogue)

Last year U2 were 10th on the albums list with 1,090,000 (850K for Bomb + 70k for Best Of 1980-90 + 170k for rest of back Catalogue).

Top 40 Best selling catalogue albums :

# 16. U2 Best Of 1980-1990 with 100k (last year it was # 33 with 70k)

Top 40 best selling music DVD's :

# 7. U2 Vertigo 2005 - Live From Chicago (last year the # 7 music DVD sold 78,430 & this year overall DVD sales rose by 6.6% so, i expect it sold 75-85k. That Westlife DVD ended up at # 3 with just over 90k )

# 18. U2 R&H (the top 16 music DVD's each sold over 50k so R&H would have most probably sold close to 50k)

2005 Top 75 airplay chart :

# 32 U2 with Sometimes
# 56 U2 with City

So it looks as if the UK accounted for more than 12% of all U2s back catalogue sales last year - impressive.

... & 3M seems to be about right when you consider the back catalogue sold 1.292M in UK & US - which is roughly 45% of U2's total album sales market.

Also, interesting that U2 ended up 29th on both the UK & US overall EOY artist album selling list, yet their back catalogue only increased by 18% in US compared with 35% in UK... i guess this, again, just shows how much smaller, on a per capita basis, album sales are in US compared with UK.

Actually my figures are wrong there - so what i meant to say was :

... & 3M seems to be about right when you consider the back catalogue sold 1.3M in UK & US - which is roughly 40% of U2's total album sales market.

Also, interesting that U2 ended up 29th on both the UK & US overall EOY artist album selling list, yet their back catalogue only increased by 21-22% in US compared with 55% in UK... i guess this, again, just shows how much smaller, on a per capita basis, album sales are in US compared with UK.

More correct UK EOY single sales info :

overall position - title - artist - sales

76 - SOMETIMES YOU CAN'T MAKE IT ON YOUR OWN - U2 - 70,700
113 - CITY OF BLINDING LIGHTS - U2 - 52,700
205 - ALL BECAUSE OF YOU - U2 - 30,700

So these 3 sold a total of 154,100 out of an overall single sales total of 190,000 - which excludes all downloads up to April 23rd. And i'm still certain that Vertigo only didn't make the top 250 because of this stupid downloads rule. So, as it is, Vertigo has to make do with sales of less than 24,100 - i think it must have done 20k though. So 20k for Vertigo would make another 16k or so from the rest of their back catalogue.

Bit surprised Bomb hasn't made Ireland EOY albums top 20... guess it must have made top 25/30 though.

To add to this list:

2005 music DVDs, Netherlands:

1. Vertigo Tour, u2
.
.
.
10. Go Home, Slane, u2

That's amazing. Only 5 weeks this DVD has been available...
Does anybody knows the amount of DVDs they sold in Netherlands?

As a matter of fact, I do... I just found this page as I was writing a reply.... (estimated 158,000)
http://fanofmusic.free.fr/Site-Chart...2005France.htm

Another page on this site says the album has thus far sold 429,200 copies
http://fanofmusic.free.fr/Site-Chart...ursAlbum-U.htm

Great !

That's French Chart Expert MJDangerous' site again & i see he's also just posted here to say Bomb has in fact now sold around 450k in France, which makes sense seeing that it also sold 290k in 2004 (18th on EOY chart).....

So 290k (in 2004) + 158k (in 2005) = 448,000

... we've now had the first 4wks of 2006 so i guess it might well now have just crossed the 450k mark (depending on the exact to & from dates of these EOY charts).

Yes, 429k was the old figure the page was not uploaded. I have now do it. HTDAAB is just out the top 200 at the moment so they are selling 400 copies a week, a total of 449,000 by now (3 weeks in 2006 at the moment).

It's funny to compare chart performances in france of ATYCLB and HTDAAB :

ATYCLB :
In 2000 : #19 of the year
2001 : #48

HTDAAB :
In 2004 : #18
2005 : #48

At least we can say that the success of both are very similar ! lol
