Taking Manny on this, but that's all hypothetical and shit cos I'm not actually betting anything. And let's e honest, no ones getting me to pay the 80 or 100 bucks or whatever nonsense this PPV is going to cost. The number of interested friends it would take to drop it down far enough to a price I want to pay is greater than a) the number of people I want to watch a fight with and b) the number of friends I have that give two shits about boxing c) possibly even just the number of friends I have period.

I thought that boxing was really popular in the US

The key word is "was"

This fight will draw a lot of interest, even though it's a few years too late, and hotel prices in Vegas have skyrocketed for that weekend to just absurd numbers.

Alas, heavyweights draw the general masses, and that division hasn't been interesting in quite a while, so the general public doesn't really give a turkey.

Oh, and the only way Mayweather loses is if he takes a dive.

This fight is 5 years late
I still expect it to break all money records

biggest certainty, is a rematch within 12 months
because there will be even more money to be made on that

If this fight had happened in 2010 I would certainly have made it a point to watch.

This being 2015, I couldn't care less.

We're getting into Rocky V territory with these two. I'll see if I can find a stream somewhere or maybe find a bar that's showing it. No way am I paying PPV prices to see a couple old dudes fight. I could just go to a bingo night.

Same.
Certaiinly not shelling out the cash for it. Will watch a replay on HBO or whatever maybe.

The last boxing PPV I bought was Holyfield/Tyson II in 6/97. You know, the one where Iron Mike had a craving for Evander's ear. I forgot how much they charged for that fight, but I think it was in the 50's.

I heard they might charge 90-100 bucks for this fight. Fuck that!

i don't know shit about what's popular or what most people like. i live under a rock where i don't understand why heavyweights are more popular than lighter weights, or why just punching people is more popular a sport than punching and kicking people. and most of my friends are lame people who like baseball. do we have a snoring smiley?

like dave said, too much money too late in their careers.

Is boxing still more popular than MMA? I know lots of people who follow and know and discuss the fighters in the UFC but it's been a very long time since I've heard anybody talk about boxers or boxing in general like that. But it could just be my generation.

I always just assume boxing is still a bigger deal because who has ever heard of any other kind of fighter making 200 million dollars for going to a decision against a guy who still lives in his mother's basement*. The ufc will hope you're gullible enough to belive believe that mma is "the fastest growing sport"(tm) just as quickly as the sports journalists who cover it will be to tell you that it's a total niche sport while simultaneously reminding you that pro wrestling is way more popular (and not even a sport). Going off the anecdotal sampling of people I know, I'm pretty sure 99% only reminded that either boxing or mma still exist when they're subjected to commercials for one or the other during a football game. Only thing I do know is that it's rather difficult to follow mma without seeing at least a half a dozen articles about how badly ppv buy rates have been suffering in the last few years after every single ppv card.

*who was it someone that Mayweather fought relatively recently that was still living in their mom's basement? Or was it when Pacquiao fought Algieri? I'm too lazy to google this shit or try to find whatever mma-related podcast I was listening to where they brought it up.

UFC pretty much shot themselves in the foot by over saturating the market...

A guy like Mayweather makes what he makes because of the business his fights bring to the casinos more than anything else.

I mean a single room at Excalibur for the Mayweather Pacquaio fight, is going for well over $500 a night. The rooms at that dump usually coat around $39 a night (which comes with a complimentary case of HPV).

Rooms at the Cosmo start at $800/night with a 2 night minimum... A 500+% markup.

Mandalay Bay is just so far away from everything else

It's actually quite nice, the ex and I went to the aquarium (which itself was a bit of a letdown) but had to walk alllllll the way through the place to get to it. The problem was that most of the shopping, which was the big attraction for her, is up closer to the Wynn/TI/Venetian area, and it's kind of a far walk if it's the middle of the afternoon and 95+ outside. I know there's a monorail but I don't want to have to take transit every time I want to go somewhere in Vegas.

If it was up closer to where Planet Hollywood is, or across from Monte Carlo even, I'd stay there for sure.

One place I will recommend everyone stay the fuck away from, fight or no fight, is Caesars. The casino floor is nice, but holy shit the hotel is old and run by a bunch of spider monkeys who recently only figured out how to hold basic tools.

I love Mandalay's backyard water park- lazy river, wave pool, etc. especially on the days when it's sofa king hot. The walking distance is indeed a bitch, but helps offset the consumption of copious amount of food and adult beverages.

can't figure out why there is so much more money in boxing than MMA

I used to think Dan White was just stealing all the money, but I guess they are some what transparent with where the money goes

I think the world wide PPVs for a Mayweather fight exceeds almost any UFC top event, is that true?

I do want to see this fight, hopefully the card will have some other decent fights. I will go to a theater unless the costs exceeds the $25- $30 range.

Mayweather is a shitty person who I will be rooting against. That's all I really care about.

So, last year, knowing basically nothing about Mayweather, I saw him interviewed at a BET Genius Talk. Prior to that, I knew his name and nothing else, besides the major facts about his boxing career.

I left that event thinking he was a super great guy. He seemed really humble, eloquent and giving. (Mike Tyson was being interviewed by Common afterwards, which is what I was there to see, and I suppose by contrast with Tyson, anyone would sound like a Harvard scholar, but I digress.)

It was right after that where I started to pay more attention when I heard his name, which I did frequently. "he's a shitty person, he can't read, etc."

I realize that a quick bit if googling will solve this rather easily, but is he seriously that bad a guy? Does he just have a great PR team that sets him up with these charitable things?

I'll do some googling, but I just wanted to share some possibly amusing misunderstanding from someone who apparently lives under a rock.

Edit: Yep, that didn't take long. I see what the issue is. :yikes:
