that's crap. all respect to Bolt, but no need to degrade swimming in order to build up Bolt's greatness. |

Well, US Women's Water Polo and Women's Soccer won gold medals within 10 minutes of each other! So happy that our water polo girls finally broke through with a gold!

My point is just that the number of medals should not be the determining factor of greatness at the Olympics because there are events, and swimming being the main one, where you are simply capable of winning many, many more medals than in others. |

I agree with the overall medal count.
But hopping, skipping, and jumping aren't analogous to fly, back, breast and free. And the many medals are really only available to Americans and Aussies because of the relays. Most swimmers are thrilled to win one individual event, let alone 2. The only swimmers to have won 4 individual events are Phelps (4 in Athens 5 in Beijing), Mark Spitz, and Kristin Otto (GDR). |

To me the most amazing thing about Bolt isn't his ability to set records in both the 100m and 200m--he's the very best, absolutely, but others have been world-class at both--but rather that someone who's frickin' 6'5" can block start and drive like that. That he can (seemingly) coast ahead so easily once at maximum velocity is less surprising, at that point the height's an advantage, but that's more than halfway through the race. He's great despite his build, not because of it. |

The Olympics would be so much better if rhythmic gymnastics, sychronised swimming, and dressage were just cut from the programme.
