Also at the Inverleigh/Belmont game I was at on the weekend, society broke down. There was a woman, she and her family looked Aboriginal. (do you capitalise that word?) And she was carrying her kid, couldn't have been older than two, when she started yelling, "fucking come here cunt! I'll knock ya fucking head off!" to someone else. About 10 minutes later she started punching on with some blokes who must have been baiting her. She was escorted from the ground. How do you become a type of person who will swear and fight not only with your kids well in earshot but in front of every spectator and player?

Racial taunts mar footy match between Belmont Lions, Inverleigh Hawks | Herald Sun

How long, how long must we sing this song :doh::hug::bonodrum::sigh:

Man what a night.

I still don't know why inte is down-rating Zaharakis though. He's played some stellar games. I'd rate him quite highly.

When he's stellar, he is super effective. But when he's not, he doesn't contribute anything of note at all. It's a consistency issue. Hocking and Heppell are showing that consistency for Essendon, as are Martin, Cotchin, Ward, Goldstein, Scully, both the Trengroves and D Swallow at other clubs.

Well done the AFL on taking the right action against Sherman. In relation to Vlad's comment, and I'm not playing down the sledge at all, wouldn't it be easy for an indigenous AFL player to shrug off irrational and impersonal slurs like "black prick" and not react? Because the sledge is nonsensical.

I should think the sledging that has surely been fielded by some StKilda players this season (Dal Santo, Riewoldt, Gilbert, Milne) would be more personally aggravating.

They're more exciting than Doggies' collective youngsters though.

I too have heard Sherman is a bit of a tosser. A fair few people are saying the punishment is over the top and people are overreacting but there is a big difference between general abuse and racism.

There's a story on Gilbert McAdam on the back page of the Sun too, who also copped a barrage from feral Pies supporters the day Nicky Winmar pointed to his skin.

I'm not going to lie... I think he should get off more than 4 weeks.

He racially abused a 19 year old multiple times in his first AFL game. 4 weeks, while still being able to keep up fitness in the VFL, isn't enough.

Oh I completely agree with you. Just goes to show how much stuff gets swept under the rug.

Were you old enough to remember the Winmar incident? And Sam donning blackface that Thursday? Shit, imagine if Sam did that now. He'd be out of a job in a second. Gaz and JB must live in constant fear.

Just read today when Spida racially abused someone a decade or so ago he banned himself for four weeks and donated $20k to an Aboriginal charity.

Don't remember the Winmar incident (though I admired him as a player later on), barely remember Sam's thing at all. I'm not sure if he'd lose his job, we'd probably just get a lot of bollocks about Australia getting too PC because we can't have racial abuse on national television anymore.

Let's make penalties for racial abuse so serious that no dickhead would think of doing it. How about half the season and $50,000? I don't think that would be too harsh. Make it completely unacceptable, not to mention a HUGE liability to clubs so that THEY are serious about making sure their players aren't dickheads too.

On an unrelated note, picks for this week:

Bulldogs vs Melbourne
Freo vs Gold Coast
Richmond vs Carlton
Essendon oh fuck no :( vs Geelong
Adelaide vs Sydney
Brissie vs Port
Collingwood vs I hope Hawthorn upset them
North Melbourne vs St Kilda

Not a terribly exciting week of footy to be honest, excluding Pies vs Hawks. Could that Friday game be any less interesting? I guess only if North Melbourne were involved. Think I'll go to a gig instead.

Surprised you folks are all picking the 'Roos over St Kilda. Sure, North Smellbourne may be experiencing a bit of a surge, but I reckon the Saints are definitely the better team and should win fairly well, say by about 20-30.

Richmond V Carlton should be interesting too.

You think it might be a contest? I'd like you to be right, but I'm not confident. This feels like another "nearly but not quite enough" season from the Tigers.

Richmond can pull a big crowd even when they're going to lose by 100!

I couldn't watch this round's Carlton matchup because Ashley is working on her DI mini on the laptop, but we're in pretty great shape. 47 points in 40 minutes is definitely what I like to see. Had we collapsed after one tough loss, I would have completely lost faith in the team, but they're roaring right back on the road, even if it is against a crappy team.

I wouldn't say Richmond are crappy (especially in comparison to past decades) and they're bound to finish ninth again at this rate but Carlton are quite obviously up and about and the fact that they're not deterioating in their game after last week is a sign of a strong team.

Does this seriously say that it's 13 up in the Freo game 7 seconds in?

Richmond, what has happened! Oh my god, this is horrible.
