So many bands, so little time! I have regrettably had to give a pass so far to Metric, LCD Soundsystem, and Crowded House because of conflicts with other shows/too close to other shows. I am hoping Metric and LCD come through again in the Fall/Winter so I can catch them then.

This is the life to lead. :)

Well it seems one of those bands heard my lament and scheduled another show on a Saturday...

May 22 - LCD Soundsystem, NYC

:dancing:

So far this year:

January 22nd - Dessa (CD release show w/Doomtree)
March 26th - Toki Wright, M.anifest, and more (Toki Wright's EP release/birthday party)
April 6th - Shearwater
April 10th - dead prez, Toki Wright, and more (the concert's associated with a hip-hop pedagogy conference, fuck to the yeah!)
April 21st - The Flaming Lips
June 27th - U2
July 18th - Pavement, St. Vincent, Here We Go Magic, and more for the Pitchfork Music Festival

June 4th - Caribou and Toro y Moi

in next weeks:

April 24 - New Young Pony Club + Simian Mobile Disco
May 5 - A Place to Bury Strangers
May 17 - Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
May 24 - Dum Dum Girls
May 26 - Los Campesinos! (as a launch party gig before Primavera sound festival)
from May 27 to May 30 - Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona:hyper: this will actually be my first festival ever and what a hell of an one...Pixies, Pavement, the Big Pink, Grizzly Bear, The New Pornographers and so on...

Saw Vampire Weekend on Monday night at the Fox Theater in Oakland. Pretty much non-stop awesomeness, except that the super-young crowd was a little timid, and didn't dance as much as I would have expected. Easily the most polite group of teenagers I've ever seen, lol. I guess that's what you get when the band is comprised of four dudes with Ivy League degrees!

The new material off Contra was especially great.

Saw John Mayer last night and it was fantastic. Michael Franti and Spearhead opened the show and brought so much energy to the room, had Staples Center about two-thirds packed, dancing, arms waving. They would make a great opener for U2.

I'm sure they would be. Michael Franti! Well, he already opened for U2 on the Zoo TV Outside Broadcast Tour (when he was in The Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy). Still, I have to say I prefer the early Spearhead (from especially Home and Stay Human).

I went to my first concert of the year last Thursday. And I have to say Tindersticks set the bar quite high for the other acts to follow.
I also have some more concerts to add. :)

Concerts in the past:
4 March: Tindersticks, Vredenburg, Utrecht

Concerts in the future:
19 March: Bettie Serveert, Tivoli De Helling, Utrecht
19 June: Muse, Goffertpark, Nijmegen
20 June: Crowded House, Heineken Music Hall, Amsterdam :hyper:
19 - 22 August: Lowlands festival, Biddinghuizen
25 August: U2, Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow
23 September: U2, Koning Boudewijnstadion, Brussels
26 September: U2, Anoeta Stadium, San Sebastian
29 September: U2, Olympic Stadium, Seville

I haven't updated my list for way too long!

Concerts in the past:
4 March: Tindersticks, Vredenburg, Utrecht
19 March: Bettie Serveert, Tivoli De Helling, Utrecht
26 March: Bettie Serveert, Hedon, Zwolle

Concerts in the future:
19 June: Muse, Goffertpark, Nijmegen
20 June: Crowded House, Heineken Music Hall, Amsterdam :hyper:
10 July: Prince, Werchter Boutique, Werchter
19 - 22 August: Lowlands festival, Biddinghuizen
25 August: U2, Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow
23 September: U2, Koning Boudewijnstadion, Brussels
26 September: U2, Anoeta Stadium, San Sebastian
29 September: U2, Olympic Stadium, Seville

And I'm still thinking about seeing Giovanca in Tivoli De Helling on May 8th. That may depend on some other things going on in my life at the moment.

4/24: Conan O'Brien :hyper:
9/25: MUSE

Want to see Crowded House in August, and Roger Waters in November. We'll see how it goes...

Saturday, I had to choose between seeing Simon & Garfunkel or My Morning Jacket at Jazz Fest in New Orleans, being a fairly serious fan of both and having seen neither live.
I think part of me died...

But it was a no brainer: I had to go with the (presumed) nearest expiration date, Simon & Garfunkel. And I think I made the right decision. It was a pretty spectacular show, even with Art's voice being practically shredded.

March 2nd- Muse- Philly
February 25- John Mayer- NYC
March 5th- Muse- NYC
May 26th- Bon Jovi- East Rutherford
June 6 &7th- U2- Anaheim
June 12th- U2- Denver

July12th- U2- Philly
July 19th- U2- East Rutherford

Adding
Pearl Jam- May 20- MSG
Muse- October 24- Newark, NJ

tears for fears and spandau ballet - april 29th at vector arena.

may as well toss up my review here. pretty fun evening. the crowd was probably 50/50 tears for fears/spandau ballet fans, although i'm being a bit generous to spandau ballet there.

tears for fears played a pretty short, but high quality set. spandau ballet played for about 90 minutes (who knew they had so many songs!) and were pretty aight.

that takes my paltry list to:

march 14 - lady gaga, vector arena
april 29 - tears for fears/spandau ballet, vector arena

January 16 - Eddie Izzard, NYC
March 5 - Muse, NYC
March 26 - Spoon, NYC
April 6 - Atoms for Peace (Thom Yorke & co.), NYC
May 7 - Broken Social Scene, NYC
May 21 - Pearl Jam, NYC
May 22 - LCD Soundsystem, NYC
June 3 - U2, Salt Lake City
June 19 - The New Pornographers, NYC
July 3 - U2, Toronto
July 12 - U2, Philadelphia
July 19 - U2, E. Rutherford, NJ
July 27 - The National, Brooklyn
October 7 - The Hold Steady, NYC

And previously I said...

So many bands, so little time! I have regrettably had to give a pass so far to Metric, LCD Soundsystem, and Crowded House because of conflicts with other shows/too close to other shows. I am hoping Metric and LCD come through again in the Fall/Winter so I can catch them then.

So besides LCD, I can knock Metric off that list as well, indirectly...

October 24 - Muse (Metric opening), Newark, NJ

:)

In reverse symmetry, I have to give Silversun Pickups' own show here in June a pass due to a family get together but I saw them open for Muse in March, so...
