Good to see another vote for TWFM  and Lonerism would be in my top 30 or so I think.

For me the thing that sets Trouble Will Find Me above the rest with The National is just how damn good Matt's lyrics are on it. That's not saying others aren't great too but in my estimation this is the cream of his crop. Pink Rabbits might be my favorite of theirs. And then for me the music is the most consistent start to finish. I'm probably incoherent. I have a fever.

I agree that it's his best lyrically. Older National heads here will disagree but I don't think I've ever heard a record that deals so well with anxiety. Pound-for-pound stronger than its three predecessors imo as well.

Empyrean Isles for me. Basically Miles' Second Quintet, my favorite jazz band ever, with Freddie Hubbard subbing on trumpet.

1. Pete Townshend--Empty Glass
2. Pete and Ronnie Lane--Rough Mix
3. The War on Drugs--Slave Ambient
4. U2--The Joshua Tree
5. Arcade Fire--Funeral
6. V/A--Columbia Country Classics: The Golden Age, Vol. 1
7. Joe Strummer--Streetcore
8. V/A--The Sound of Music: Original Cast Recording (not the soundtrack)
9. Bruce--Darkness
10. Bruce--The Rising

My favorite piece(s) of music are (is) Hadyn's two cello concertos, but I can't list any one of the five recording I have of it as a favorite album. There's no Russian Circles or Radiohead, but it's the body of work for these two bands that makes them extraordinary.

Listing the next five would be too difficult, but I think October might be on there, along with Rubber Factory, and the Charlie Brown Christmas album. Gutter Twins, Crocodiles, The Men. Maybe I just listed the next five. Tunnel of Love. Godspell OCR, Jesus Christ Superstar soundtrack.

I have to stop now.

Wow, I don't think I'd ever seen yours Martha! Sounds like Empty Glass is well worth checking out for a Who fan? I've never heard of it.

Not in a particular order, but ill throw this out there.

1 - U2- Achtung Baby

3 - Rage Against The Machine - s/t
4 - Soundgarden - Superunknown
5 - Isis - Wavering Radiant

10 - Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Your Skinny Fists Up Like Antennas To Heaven
11 - Bitches Brew - Miles Davis

These just came to my head. i know it's random, genres aren't all that consistent. also post rock albums are in the lower place but that's because this isn't in the order. ill do that later.

That's almost the only Isis album I immensely liked. I somehow can't really enjoy the post metal album that's borrowing this "loud-quiet" dynamics thing from post rock. lots of post rock bands i like seem not to follow that formula, so.

also i forgot to add Baroness' Purple in my list. damn I'm forgetful.

this required more thought than i expected.

1. The Beatles - Revolver
2. Verve - A Storm in Heaven
3. Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly
4. U2 - The Unforgettable Fire
5. Pink Floyd - Meddle
6. The Verve - Urban Hymns
7. Nas - Illmatic
8. George Harrison - All Things Must Pass
9. Black Star - Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are...
10. The Tragically Hip - Fully Completely
11. Radiohead - In Rainbows

Great list!
A Storm In Heaven

Did you see that McCabe submitted a disc of unreleased songs for the Urban Hymns reissue - unreleased full band songs! - and Aschroft quashed it in favour of a live disc? He claims he wrote a song that others say is a band composition. I believe others in this instance....
