Me too. Geneva is a phenomenal album and one of my favourites of 2009, but it's going to take a lot to top Station for me.

Agreed. No slight on Geneva; I'm not saying it's no good. It's actually quite excellent.

But Station was a killer of an album.

Apparently Popmatters loves the new Pelican album:

I saw that earlier.

Big change from the last album, that's for sure.

It'll most likely get ordered sometime soon from Tower.

Munaf from Explosions was at Dirty Projectors last night.

Thought that was worth mentioning.

Did you tell him to hurry the hell up on making the new album?

I didn't get a chance to speak to him, but he was very nice at FFF last year when I did. I'll assume a new album is closer now than it was then.

Listened to part of the Pelican album today via streaming.

I'm impressed.

I listened to it while working today. I like it too. Not sure if I think it's as good as the incredible scores it's getting, but I do like it.

Found this band called Not to Reason Why today and had a listen to their debut album, Would You Hug Fire?, and what do you know? It's fucking great. It's got excellent percussion, orchestral parts, and plenty of crashing sound. The closing track, "Ancients," is a twelve-minute long epic complete with all of the above features. Definitely one of the better post-rock albums I've heard from this year, so far.

I enjoy the new Pelican album, don't get me wrong, but I think it's fairly clearly their weakest so far. Stunned at some of the ratings in the media.

How were they live? They're here on Friday, may try to talk some friends into going if I'm in the concertin' mood.

This was my third time seeing them live, and this time they sounded a little tired. But they still made my ears bleed in a good way.

(I also really like Young Widows a whole bunch, who may still be opening for them.)
