23.04.07 Fan Club show for thepolicetour.com club members!

The Police will play a FAN CLUB show before they kick off their world tour in Vancouver! - This incredible event will take place on: Sun. May 27 - Vancouver, BC at GM Place @ 7:30 pm local time...
Since we know The Police Tour Fan Club members are by far the band's biggest supporters (and have waited over 23 years to see the band!), this is the band's way of saying thank you to the fan club for their loyalty and patience. This will be an extremely special show as only certain areas of GM Place will be sold, so the venue will be kept as intimate as possible. The only way that you can buy tickets for this exclusive show is through ThePoliceTour.com and by being a member of the Fan Club. Tickets will NOT go on public sale for this show.

The Police Tour Fan Club members-only presale for this show will work as follows:

- The presale will begin on Thur. April 26 @ 10am local time in Vancouver. Head to ThePoliceTour.com Tickets at this time to purchase your tickets.;

- The first day of presales will be reserved for CURRENT MEMBERS ONLY (as of 11:59 pm EST on Sunday, April 22);

- If any tickets remain, a second day of presales will be held the following day (April 28 @ 9am local time), for any new members or current members who would still like to purchase tickets, but did not purchase on the first day;

- There will be a 2 ticket limit per member;

- The 2 tickets DO NOT count toward a member's presale code count... so even if you have already purchased tickets for another date, feel free to buy!

- Tickets will all be priced at and sold through Ticketmaster (no bundle packages will be sold);

- Tickets are for reserved seating only;

- All tickets will be Will Call only and need to be picked up in person at the venue on the day of the show beginning at 12 noon (the location of will-call will be provided closer to the show date).

Don't miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to catch The Police gearing up to take on the world and performing for their biggest fans!

You must be a member to participate in this presale.

Important Fan Club Sale Instructions

Our fan club sale system will generate your fan club sale passcode for you when the show goes live. You will not get a passcode before the fan club sales start. We strongly advise that you carefully review the instructions on how to participate in the fan club presales before they start. View these instructions at Ticket Presale Guidance.

To purchase your tickets, please visit the ThePoliceTour.com Tickets page. Tickets for this show are strong in terms of both quantity and quality and we hope that as many fan club members as possible get seats. However, as this is a fan club exclusive, intimate show, tickets are expected to sell out very quickly. Also, The Police Tour Fan Club is not just a ticket club. Joining the Fan Club is not a promise that you will be able to get tickets to a show.

Local Time:

What does 'Local Time' mean? For example: if we say "presales start at 1pm Local Time" and there is a presale in NY, it will happen at 1pm EST and if there is a presale in LA, that presale will start 1pm PST. If you are interested in a presale that is outside your timezone, please make sure to adjust for any time zone difference.

Does anyone know what songs they've been rehearsing....any rarities?
For example, I'd love to see something like "Secret Journey," "Truth Hits Everybody" or "No Time This Time"...I guess with only 5 albums it should be easy to please most with their setlists.

May 22nd Brad Paisley
May 27th Fan Club
May 28th Official Police Tour Opener
May 30th Police - Vancouver #2

Given this schedule for GM Place arena in Vancouver(not to mention the strong likelihood of Playoff dates needed for NHL hockey playoffs) Does anybody know where and when they are rehearsing?

All I know is that production rehearsals for the crew and staging have been booked for GM Place.

But I'm not a member :sad:

Well, look at it this way...it would be worth paying for the membership.

Shoot! You live right where it's happening!

Other people not only have to pay for their membership and a $50 ticket, but also airfare, hotel, rental car (maybe), and food.

You don't even have to leave your house!

I would say it's worth every penny! And you can go to the show knowing that you went there a lot cheaper than most folks.

If they had a fan only show here in Dallas, and it was going to cost me an extra $150.....I'd do it!

Police drummer Copeland excited about band's rehearsal form

By Stuart Derdeyn, The Province

Published: Monday, April 30, 2007

Police drummer Stewart Copeland doesn't mince words when talking about the group's coming tour.

"It’s going to be an incredible tour, because we’re sounding fantastic as players,” says Copeland. “I think the other two guys have been practising and playing a lot in the last 20 years.

“We’re slaying ourselves at the start of it all in rehearsals, that we’ve got these songs that are such a perfect vehicle for our playing.”

The band opens its 30-year reunion tour in Vancouver with two sold-out shows at GM Place on May 28 and 30. The British trio’s tour, its first in well over two decades, is the top-selling one this summer. And it all started right here in British Columbia at Lions Gate Studios in North Vancouver.

Copeland, speaking from his home in Los Angeles, is looking forward to coming back.

“We started this up there and had a wonderful time. But it was also where we saw another for the first time in two decades and we had to cut through a lot of the cobwebs, and we really made a lot of progress.”

“We started out sounding like a high school band, then a college band and then like a bar band. Then, by the end of the two weeks, we sounded like a world class mega-band for the one song at the Grammys. Afterwards, we spent a month in Italy -- in the magic Sting-dom -- and we’ve been getting a lot better.”

Fans of the group can expect to hear an equal mix of greatest hits and favourite album tracks in the set lists. Many versions will surprise and excite audiences, Copeland says.

“We’re re-writing these songs as we go along. We’ve been finding the right mix of playing the song like it’s written on the can and also bringing something new to the party.”

At this stage in rehearsals, his three top picks are “When the World Is Running Down,” “Message In A Bottle” and “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic."

“That last one is like a diamond. It’s impossible to carve up in any new ways. Yet we’ve found some new tricks for it and they’re exciting.”

Look for the Province’s complete Stewart Copeland interview in our full Police preview on May 26.

Andy and Stewart are in L.A. right now, but I don't know about Sting. On Sunday afternoon, Andy did a 1 hour discussion, followed by a signing of his book, at the LA Times Book Festival. He mentioned that he had only flown in the night before from Italy.

My own personal feeling is they will be doing some rehearsing here in L.A. over the next couple of weeks before heading up to Vancouver where it seems they could load in on May 23rd and spend a few days rehearsing until the first show on the 27th.

Andy has a book of his photos coming out within the next 2 weeks from Taschen Books who had a booth there at the Book festival. I asked if Andy may be doing a book presentation at their Beverly Hills store and they indicated that it may happen. That seems to imply that he will be in L.A. for the next couple of weeks at least. Also, I have heard a rumor that there may be an L.A. club show performance, possibly at the Viper Room, prior to Vancouver. Who knows if that will actually happen, but as they did do the short perforamnce at the Whiskey, I wouldn't be too surprised.

How many months or days can they spend in the US during 2007 before the taxes become burdonsome? Their North American dates this year appear to be about the same as U2s last couple tours - with more dates to be announced for November.

6 months is the magic number?(183 days)

I was under the impression that U2 could only spend around 4 months(120 days) in the US during each of 2001 and 2005.

It comes out to about 120( per year over a 3 year period). If you look at the formula in the chart:
for 2004, 2005, 2006:
120/6 + 120/3 + 120 =180 which is less than 183.

Then the second part is 183 in current year. I thought they spent 120 max too. But it looks like there are caveats in that chart (in the footnotes).

ETA: Actually, I think the 120 applies because of the bottom box about a foreign "tax home". U2 does not pay federal tax to Ireland either, so the 120 days applies.

The current current POLICE schedule only has them in the USA for about 2 months(60 days including off-nights)

At the moment, If 120 days is correct, they may only do 4-6 weeks in November in USA, unless they plan to fly out on off days to Mexico or Canada.

Looks like GM Place will be vacant sooner rather than later....

I think the key with this is Sting. Stewart is an American, so it's no issue with him. Andy, as far as I know, lives permanently year round in Los Angeles. He's lived in LA since the 1980s and previously lived and worked in L.A. from 1968 to 1973, so I assume he has no issues with touring in the U.S. Sting lives in various cities around the world including New York and Malibu, but I don't know what his legal status is, so he's the one who will impact the amount of shows they could do in the US.

I'm looking forward to the Police shows here in L.A., which along with London, amount to the homecoming shows on the tour.

All 3 are rehearsing at an Indian Reservation recreational center in North Vancouver.

They will be spending about 20 days in May in town, adding up to about a month total if you count the rehearsals earlier in the year.

Tickets are still available for the 5/27/07 Fan Club show at GM Place - Capacity was set at 8,000 which is less than half the 19,000 that will see them on both 5/28/07 and 5/30/07.

Except for one event on May 22nd, GM Place in Vancouver is vacant until the opening of the tour.

The 5/22 Brad Paisley concert has now been bumped to mid October, clearing the schedule for The Police Crew to take over GM Place until the end of the month.

Sting found guilty of sexual discrimination
Thursday, May 10 2007, 12:24 BST

By Matt Houghton

Sting and his wife have been found guilty of sexual discrimination after breaking employment law in sacking their personal chef.

Jane Martin was fired after she became pregnant - an act that the tribunal considered "shameful conduct".

In a unanimous verdict the tribunal found that Sting and his wife, Trudie Styler, had dismissed Miss Martin unfairly and that she had been the victim of unlawful sexual discrimination.

According to the Daily Mail, the couple could face a record fine, since there is no limit to the compensation tribunals can order in the face of sexual discrimination.

Personally, I think this is total bullshit. She's probably just playing the preggy card to cover up her shitty job as a chef. :eyebrow:
