I'd have a tough time choosing just one. It'd be an on-going list. But girlsaloud picked one that should be on a lot of lists.

Probably still my favorite album of all time.

John Coltrane - A Love Supreme

it's jazz, while still heavier than 99% of all rock music and more spiritual than 90% of all gospels

Is there more essential music out there? Even in the realm of rock, absolutely. Doesn't mean it's not the most "essential" in regards to my personal tastes and what not, though.

Everyone would probably be happier if we weren't having our umpteenth favorite-of-all-time discussion featuring the same twelve albums as always.
