Please vote for your THREE FAVORITES!

In what may have been a shocker to no one but me, "A Night Like This" took 100% of the vote, in a somewhat surprising The Head on the Door round.

As it stands at the moment, the Tier 1 survivor will feature the following songs:

A Night Like This - 13 Votes
In Between Days - 10 Votes
Push - 10 Votes
Sinking - 7 Votes

Joining:

One Hundred Years
The Hanging Garden
A Strange Day
The Figurehead

Now we move on to Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me...an interesting album in The Cure's Oevure to be sure.

This is a tier 2 album, so please vote for your THREE FAVORITE SONGS

Due to this being a weekend day, this thread will stay open for 72 hours, though I did mean to start it yesterday. Oh well.

ONWARDS!

This thread is going to be a bit of a wait and see. With so many options, the way I've been doing things, we may need to do a song by song tread for this album.

So glad Sinking made it through. My first impulse is to vote Just Like Heaven, Catch, and The Snakepit, but I'll probably give this one another spin before I finalize anything.

Fuck!

This is virtually impossible for me.

There are at least 3 fast songs, and 3 slower songs that I love on this album.

Can't even count the times I've closed my eyes and listened to A Thousand Hours on repeat. So I have to pick it, but then at the expense of other really good tracks. Dang.

To pick three songs is really difficult.

How Beautiful You Are, Just Like Heaven and The Kiss. But I already feel bad that Torture or Like Cockatoos are not among the three.

But please, don't get me wrong. This is my second or third least favorite Cure album.

It's one of my least favorites of their heyday. A lot of decent/pretty good stuff with only Just Like Heaven ranking among my all-time favorites.

I don't listen to this album much at all, and rarely in full, so I'll have to give it a proper spin before voting. In fact, the thing I listen to the most in relation to this album is Dinosaur Jr's cover of Just Like Heaven. I know Ashley will hate me for saying this, but that cover has just ruined the original for me. So much better.

What are the good qualities of the Just Like Heaven cover? Pretentious douchebags on RYM always say it's better. I think Dinosaur Jr. is great and can't stop laughing when I hear their cover, especially the YOUUU!!!s. So fucking funny, but I wouldn't call it "good."

I didn't vote in any of the other polls, but I'm voting here because this is the one Cure album I have. I need to hear more...

I chose: The Kiss, Why Can't I Be You?, and Icing Sugar (the latter because I assumed no one else was going to pick it. Looks like I was right.).

It sounds fucking awesome. Even with the YOUUUU!!!!s. It's the guitar in particular. I'm a sucker for how it sounds, and it makes the original sound kind of flimsy and weak by comparison.

Plus, Dinosaur Jr > post-Pornography The Cure.*

*Disintegration notwithstanding

J Mascis always plays spectacular guitar solos, and Just Like Heaven is no exception. But I still prefer the original.

Not true!

Icing Sugar, How Beautiful You Are... and Like Cockatoos. This one's a really strange one; I really like about half the stuff and think it'd make a fantastic single album. But the second half DRAGS.

Also, the Dinosaur Jr. cover is fucking terrible. I think JLH works really well because it's a pure pop song at heart, and it ruins it.

(The YOOOOOOOOOUUUUUs are funny, though.)

Why Can't I Be You grates on me badly. Not shocked that it's doing well, because it certainly stands out, but ugh. Those fake processed horns sound like shit.

So I guess Liam and Traviud are going to bottle me when I say that I think the whole album would be much, much better if Dinosaur Jr covered the complete bloody thing.

WCIBY and Hot Hot Hot would probably sound great covered by Dinosaur Jr. Rough em up a bit.

Just Like Heaven is a perfect pop song and couldn't be improved in any way.

Hurray for another Icing Sugar voter. :hi5: I love that song. The drums are the best.

It's funny; I think I prefer the second half of this album more than the first. Even though two of my favorite songs on it are on the first half, I like the songs on the second half more. Most of them are really strange sounding, and I like that.

I think the first half is one of the best stuff Cure has ever put out, while the second half - with the exception of Like Cockatoos and Shiver and Shake - is just grating most of the time.
