This thread is loosely inspired by a conversation my brother overheard at a Caribbean celebration about 25 years ago.

(Both in thick Jamaican accents)

Man to DJ - "HEY! PUMP UP THE BASS"

DJ - "WHATCHA KNOW ABOUT BASS?!?!"

No.

I hate threads where all it is is YouTube videos posted. It clogs up the page, makes everything move slow.

Everyone knows the bassline to Billie Jean. It fucking rules. I just wanted to express my love for it. I think it's probably my favorite bassline of all-time.

I also really like the bassline on DO YOU FEEL LOVED.

Don't know how much anyone else will care for these, but The Verve in their early days were easily the best shoegaze band as far as bass went. I love the bass - and the killer guitar - on the Voyager 1 live versions of "Slide Away" and "Gravity Grave". The latter in particular is the definitive version of the song, one of the best moments in shoegaze history.

The Neighbourhood? I heard Sweater Weather for the first time a few days ago.

Sweater Weather and Female Robbery are both great. And pretty much everything I've heard by them.
