Don't F with it. Would be a good Sphere song (I know it won't happen though).
They were not shooting for it at the time, his point was basically that they were too obsessed with making a dance album and produced the song improperly.

I think it was during the Vertigo Tour? Probably dumped it when they briefly brought back Discotheque instead.

You better fucking hang out with me, 'Jerry Dunk'. I'm going to that very show.

Is that rehearsal clip legit? It sounds sick. They probably didn't play it because it would have required The Edge to actually play his guitar. God it's depressing how much they shit on Pop. Mofo is one of their very best songs.

I'm prepared for anything, up to and including the band leaving the stage and "The Fly" being performed via tape by Gavin Friday, a la the i+e intermission.

It was during Vertigo. 3rd leg. It came really close to fruition - the plan was to have a Pop encore akin to the ZooTV one (Mofo and Discotheque instead of Zoo Station and The Fly).

I am pretty sure that the so-called 2015 soundcheck is from PopMart though. Same user has uploaded a "soundcheck of innocence" for Do You Feel Loved, which certainly never happened in 2015. Definitely sounds like 1997 Bono as well.

After the soundcheck info leaked in 2005, I can vividly remember those Vertigo 3rd leg setlist parties and many of us begging for some Mofo.

We got those acoustic encores instead.

Nothing got the crowd fist pumping like "The First Time".

I actually really enjoyed the first time. It was certainly not a track you'd expect them to break out

Oh for sure. I liked it so much, I covered the same exact version at a bar a week or so later. But yeah, beginning of encore, yikes!

They did put The First Time in the main set and set the ZooTV encore at its right place during the 4th leg of Vertigo.

Pearl Jam does great acoustic encores, but thankfully not at the expense of their most energetic songs. Replacing Zoo Station and The Fly with acoustic versions of Walk On-The First Time-Stuck in a Moment-Wild Horses (depending on the night) was not their greatest setlist decision.
