Heard Patti Smith's "Dancing Barefoot" on an episode of David Fincher's MINDHUNTER and it reminded me that the U2 cover is pretty damn solid. Just listened to it for the first time in probably a decade.

Admittedly, this is a very small list.

That or Unchained Melody were probably the best from that, or any, era. After that it's pretty much crickets. Yeah ok, Satellite of Love, whatever. Anything else?

Post-2000, I enjoyed Neon Lights. Or at least, I enjoyed U2 wanting to do Neon Lights.

Happiness Is A Warm Gun not for any objective quality, but for me it sums up their mindset in the Pop era to do something that may not be popular, potentially alienates two fan-bases, and release it anyway.

I always thought their cover of Paint it Black wasn’t bad.

Ehh, Paint it Black and Fortunate Son are their two most uninspired, unnecessary covers.

Especially considering how much the band was experimenting with their own material at the time.

They've never been good at covers. None stand out to me.

I don't know if it ever found its way into a studio recording (or care, really) but I have to admit that Can't Help Falling In Love as it appeared on some of the later Zootv shows (Sydney maybe?) is something special.
