his voice doesn't sound as good as the last couple of albums...in this song he's regressed to the Anthony of old.

That new song is 'meh'.

Whoever said it... very radio safe indeed. I'm liking the new blink-182 single better than the RHCP single... a little bit more umf.

I'm a big Peppers fan.

I've listened to the new song 4 or 5 times now. First listen I thought it was ok, but once I turned the bass up, it's very catchy. It seems to be missing a catchy chorus but overall I think it's a very good song.

Top 2 Peppers songs:
Don't Forget Me (Unbelievable guitar work live- especially Live at Slane)

Wet Sand (3:40 until the end is one of the greatest parts of a song ever)

Wow I like that Don't Forget Me. I have the Slane DVD, but don't remember it being that good.

I like the new single. Catchy bass line. I'm interested to hear how the rest of the album will be.

Yeah, the entire DVD is great. It's only missing Soul to Squeeze. I must have played it 200 times since 2003.

That version of Don't Forget Me is powerful- you FEEL it.

I far prefer Fortune Faded of those greatest hits singles they released.

That Wet Sand track is great. I'd never heard it, cos I was never interested in listening to Stadium Arcadium. I think those type tracks actually suit Kiedis' voice a bit better.

Venice Queen is a stellar track. I love most of By the Way. Californication is great, Blood Sugar is good but hella overrated, and I really dig Freakey Styley.

Soul to Squeeze was actually played at Slane but omitted apparently because Frusciante's guitar string broke during the song and had an Edge, Boston 2001 moment. lol.

I agree, it seems they tried to make the songs on SA easier for Kiedis to sing live. More melodic and slower songs- they started that on By The Way. That being said, there are some real gems on there.

Kiedis has also gotten a bit better live. I've seen them maybe 15 times since 1999 for the Californication tour. He was terrible back then and has gotten steadily better live. Still not very good lol.

Blood Sugar Sex Magic is awesome but not for everyone. You have to be in a loose mindset for it. The later stuff is more friendly.

Egh. The production of that video is like... awful.

The vocals don't even look like they match up to the video. And that song does not rock the way they're dancing to it. They look like a bunch of idiots on a rooftop.

The start of the chorus makes me think they're going to bust into the exact chorus from that HEY OH song they did a few years ago.

But, I guess they're ripping themselves off this time instead of somebody else so, whatever.

The song's not all that bad.

Indeed. For a lead single, that's really upsetting. Has nothing on Dani California, By the Way, or Scar Tissue.

Yeah, those lyrics are dumb, too. And the porn stache with that hair... no.

I listened to the audio stream earlier today. My initial thoughts on each song:

“Monarchy of Roses”: A glorious mess of distortion and fuzz with a clear-cut chorus. Good start that gets you pumped for the rest.

“Factory of Faith”: Anthony Kiedis’ returns to rapping, but he doesn’t sound into it like he did on past albums. The delivery triples when he sings.

“Brendan’s Death Song”: Things slow down with a sweet acoustic intro. Can’t touch something like “Scar Tissue”, but it crushes “Zephyr Song”. This song has a great bridge. It’s so close to exploding into crazy riffage, but it pulls back. Absolutely love those yelps at the end by Kiedis.

“Ethiopia”: Flea gets his first big bass moment at the forefront. The chorus is worthy of big singalongs. The guitar solo is less impressive and sets in some doubts about Josh Klinghoffer.

“Annie Wants a Baby”: The chorus is pretty catchy and there are a few nice, high-pitched guitar parts, but it’s not as strong as the first four songs.

“Look Around”: The band bursts out of the gate with the funkiest Chili Peppers track since “Hump de Bump.” Those handclaps are a sweet touch. The bridge moves into “Give It Away” territory. The funktastic guitar and Kiedis’ rapid-rapping brings you back to the band’s early days.

“The Adventures of Raindance Maggie”: This isn’t a bad song by any means, but I still think it was a poor first single choice. “Ethiopia,” “Factory of Faith,” and “Monarchy of Roses” all would have made better radio hits. Plus, the lyrics are pretty terrible.

“Did I Let You Know”: Whoa! Trumpet solo! Looks like Flea is going for more than just the bass this time around! There’s also a slightly off-kilter, yet awesome drumbeat from Smith. Gotta love it.

“Goodbye Hooray”: The most aggressive track here so far, but it’s not angry by any means. Klinghoffer finally rips out an amazing, eruptive solo.

“Happiness Loves Company”: We get our first taste of Flea’s piano playing. It’s a jangling melody that compliments the marching drumbeat well.

“Police Station”: Klinghoffer’s backing vocals aren’t as good as Frusciante’s, but they work wonderfully in this slower number.

“Even You Brutus?”: The biggest surprise of the record. Sharp guitar intersects with Wild West-piano. Kiedis switches between rap & singing on the fly.

“Meet Me In The Corner”: This song is made for a smoky bar late at night. Subtle guitar work, serene vocals, and a melancholy atmosphere.

“Dance, Dance, Dance”: The interaction between Flea and Klinghoffer at the start is beautiful. Hell, the whole damn song is a funky, intricate, satisfying conclusion.

All in all, this is a wonderfully rebirth and return to form for the RHCP. Klinghoffer is clearly still trying to get comfortable in this new situation, but he has several standout moments. This is also the greatest expansion of the Chili Peppers' sound in years.

This is really not bad at all. I might even download it, actually. Fair few middling tracks but there's some good mixed in amongst them and there's nothing as egregious as some of the songs I heard from Stadium Shitcadium (never listened to it in full). But... there's also no Dani California. Really liked the third song.

Sounds like it's a good album but it's lacking depth up front...

Can't believe I still haven't listened to it yet.

And here I am, listening to Zooropa on loop.
