Go see "The Sword" because the band's name is "The Sword". How bad could they be?

Tons of good bands with shitty names. There's an Irish band that immediately comes to mind. I haven't listened to The Sword though.

That's "S-Words".

The Sword are a local metal band. I've seen them in the past and they were highly entertaining.

I guess the side-project will be "You Can Have My Bow"?

Sounds like a porn movie though.

They're fairly successful in their respective genre, I believe. I think they've had some fairly high profile billings (opening for Metallica, Clutch, Lamb of God, Lacuna Coil, etc.). I remember hearing my one friend who's a "big" metal fan say he was tempted to go to the Metallica show just to see The Sword.

I say from personal experience that Cursive and Titus Andronicus are really good live, even if you're not a huge fan of their music.

EDIT: I write things in the wrong threads.

FYI, Doves' Break Me Gently was on the radio on my drive to work today. It made me happy.

Are you going to FYF this year? Great lineups are the norm for that fest, and this one is no exception.

I want to like Titus andronicus like I want to like japandroids. They're both ok, there's just nothing that strikes me as fantastic or amazing about either of those bands.

I read so much positive stuff about japandroids, so I checked them out with much anticipation....and......meh, just didn't do it for me, unfortunately. :(

It took me many, many listens before I liked Celebration Rock. In fact I hated it at first. Felt like it was 2000 and I was listening to Finch. But much of it grew on me, outweighing what I still don't like.

Japandroids and Titus Andronicus are very similar for me. There is one song on both albums I absolutely love and have listened to a ton. A couple more on both albums I like quite a bit, but don't listen to quite as often. The rest, whatevs.

That said, Titus Andronicus were SOOOO good live. The songs I am still indifferent to on the album were phenomenal. I have a feeling Japandroids would likely be the same type of deal. Some bands just can't translate their live sound / performances over to record. I've heard that Alabama Shakes group is incredible live, to the point that the people I know who've seen them acted like their album was one of the most disappointing pieces of music they've ever experienced.
