Now that Cobbler mentions it, I can easily envision that song being from Hagar-era Van Halen. That iteration of the band really was a cheese-fest. I have weird memories associated with them because my childhood best friend's dad would play that one album with the Siamese twins (is that still an acceptable term?) on the cover all the damn time.

See, all these bands, plus Journey, Kiss, etc etc, in my mind, are all in the same wheelhouse.
Would love to hear from you Hewson and others - what was it that made Eddie Van Halen such a great guitarist? |

I think you and I have a really similar opinion here. Though I don’t necessarily think negatively of them, I’m just not interested at all. But also I didn’t think Journey or KISS are real bands. Journey couldn’t sell a show if they tried, and KISS can only sell a show but couldn’t sell an album if they tried. |

I'm not sure if you're talking about current or classic Journey, but they most certainly were selling shows back in the early-to-mid 80s, when they were one of the biggest bands in the world.
As for trying to explain to Cobbler what made Eddie Van Halen so great, maybe we should defer to the experts: David Lee Roth, Metallica, Pete Townshend, Brian May, Tony Iommi, More Remember Eddie Van Halen Jimmy Page on Eddie Van Halen: ‘He Was the Real Deal’ |

Current Journey. It’s not real. It’s like 700 different people and a sort of a joke. As for KISS, less of a joke because the production still sells, but does anyone really know music by them outside of their cult? Aside from the single obvious song, I can’t name a damn song of theirs. KISS doesn’t belong in the company of Aerosmith or Van Halen in terms of musical popularity IMO, but I wasn’t around in the 80s. So I dunno. They’ll forever be a gimmick in my mind. |
