If you told me he died on the plane with Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper, I would have believed you.

wow really?

i saw Roland(? the one with the long brown hair) at a bonfire party in the 90s - i should have had words with him! (although at the time i had no clue, and just thought he strangely had a familiar face hahaha)

Certainly an important figure in the early days of rock n roll, sad to hear of him passing, though 89 isn't too bad.

That's an interesting point, but thinking about it, I feel the opposite. While I like Sprinter a lot, some of the heavier parts sound a bit forced to me, more so Three Futures.

God damn, this Protomartyr album is really something. If I recall correctly it has been praised before in this thread. A must-listen for every post-punk fan.

It's their best. It may be a contender for AOTY for me.

For me too.

Their frontman has a unique delivery with some interesting lyrics on top of that.

I wish I could get the hype about Protomartyr but... they're just not very good.

It's a rare genre where I prefer older to newer output, but early eighties post-punk is so far ahead of what sits under that umbrella today, it's not funny.

"Who buys U2 records anyway? It's just music for plumbers and bricklayers. Bono, what a slob. You'd think with all that climbing about he does, he'd look real fit and that. But he's real fat, y'know. Reminds me of a soddin' mountain goat."
"And as for Bono, he needs a colostomy bag for his mouth."

Anyone listen to the new Julien Baker? I think it's a hauntingly beautiful record that dives even deeper into her pain and struggles, but also leaves a hint of hope. It's one of the most cathartic, impactful listening experiences I've had this year.
