Lollapalooza 2011 - 20th Anniversary

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I've had the pleasure of hearing all of that (ages ago, all of a sudden) without ever really getting into any of it. At all. More power to you, though. Anyway, I cannot imagine seeing Front 242 at Lollapalooza. Laughing in amazement, over here.

"Jeepers Creepers, it's an indie-folk monster!"
"These fresh-faced shoegazers glam-rockers are shooting up the indie charts with their glammed-out garage sound"
"This band put Cavil To Rest for a new name and a claim to fame."

Generally agreed upon answers were: Bright Eyes, Smith Westerns and Local Natives

Today's clues are a little harder, no one is quite sure of the answer to #2:

LOLLA LINEUP CLUE: Mr. Baumbach must be flattered that there’s a band named after him and his flick.
LOLLA LINEUP CLUE: This bluesy, rootsy beauty might just be James Brown reincarnated.
LOLLA LINEUP CLUE: Hard-hitting instrumentals from a duo that fires out remixes like machine gun bullets.

That was my guess too, but she's playing another festival that same weekend, and she's playing it on Saturday. The festival is only in Connecticut though, so it's possible. A lot of people have settled on Grace Potter & The Nocturnals as the answer. Or Adele, but...yeah, I'm not seeing Adele there, though she very likely is going to be at Lolla.

I'd say Sharon Jones, but "beauty" was in the clue. Maybe it's the girl who stole Bieber's award.

Hey Ashley, or anyone else that's playing this trivia game on The Facebook, is your shit not working? Mine keeps getting frozen on "Updating QRANK profile."

God fucking dammit.

Fucking internet. Fucking technological advancements.

Yep, it's not working, but according to the Lolla Board the iPhone app version is. I don't have an iPhone though :(.

Well, the clues got solved before QRank ever got the game running on Facebook. Long story short, the trivia game was a bad idea for the most part (didn't mind playing it, that was fun).

Lineup out by midnight tomorrow :panic:

I've been lurking on the Lolla forum all day. I really really hope there's a big surprise (The Cure). I don't want to be this down on Lollapalooza.

Yeah, color me not that excited. Pitchfork all the way. Probably going to go to Lolla whatever day Coldplay's there since I've never seen them, but that's about it.

Coldplay is a bit of a surprise, no? They weren't one of the rumored headliners from a while back, were they?

There's some good shit there, of course. Not the best lineup ever, but I'm still excited.

Arctic Monkeys and MMJ definitely stand out for me, even though I've seen both multiple times already.

I'll probably end up enjoying Eminem, if he plays a bunch of stuff from his first 2 or 3 albums.

I've heard Death From Above are great live.

Muse blows.

My Dad would be more excited about seeing The Cars than I am.

A Perfect Circle is a band that I need to learn more about.

Sleigh Bells would probably be a blast live.

The Pretty Reckless is a kind of cool/funny surprise there hidden late in the lineup.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. wins the award for best band name in the lineup that I hadn't heard of before.

The official lineup is apparently out, but the site won't load for me:

http://lineup.lollapalooza.com/

Don't get me wrong, there are definitely bands here I want to see, but nothing to the extent of last year or the two years before that.

And Coldplay, MMJ and A Perfect Circle were HEAVILY rotated suggestions of who the last three headliners were going to be, but no, we didn't know for sure.

Can't fucking BELIEVE that Eminem is getting the #1 billing though, and Coldplay THIRD. They have their heads so far up there asses about Eminem it's not even funny.

Worse than Bonnaroo. That's pretty damn rare.

Unless there's a Coldplay/Mountain Goats/Phantogram/Girl Talk/DFA 1979/The Cars/Cee-Lo day, I don't give a shit.

Where the hell is Okkervil?

:panic:

I can't believe Okkervil wasn't on the list. They were all but confirmed tonight at the lineup release party. Someone is a damn liar. That fucker Bono must've been there.

Well, Eminem has had a pretty damn successful career resurgence, at least in terms of album sales/popularity/radio hits. So, that one makes sense I think.

But, yes, Coldplay listed behind Foo Fighters is a bit off. No matter what one thinks of them, Coldplay are a bigger band than Foo Fighters, without question. They should have probably gotten top billing.

I don't care if they're all surviving on oxygen and viagra, Buffalo Springfield at Bonnaroo >>>> Lolla.

Four top line acts? Seven bands scrolling on the Lolla page? I'm so confused as to what's going on.

Foo Fighters have been around longer.

Plus there's Grohl's pedigree.

It's not that cut-and-dried.

I guess I'm more referring to the idea that his last two albums have been two of his worst, I feel like in general he's just not as well regarded as he's been in the past, especially with the Lolla crowd.

Bands I REALLY want to see:

Coldplay, Muse,Cee Lo Green, Arctic Monkeys, Explosions in the Sky, Ratatat, OK Go, Two Door Cinema Club, the Mountain Goats, The Drums, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Phantogram, Friendly Fires, Girl Talk,

The Perry Ferrell of '91 would have overdosed had he known Coldplay was headlining his festival, let alone over a rawk band.

He's become the Al Davis of music festivals now though. I'm not sure he knows what year it is, which would explain the lack of ANYTHING relating to the anniversary, like, I dunno, Smashing Pumpkins or Pearl Jam. Vedder is doing shit, anyway.

Lolla is just a breeding ground for sin. Sex, drugs, under-age drinking, over-age drinking, GAF, etc....you name it, and if it's morally wrong or just irresponsible, it's happening at Lolla. Look at this photo I took there a few years ago:

backstagecoachella.jpg

Fucking heathens.

I'm campaigning against Lolla, definitely. Not because of the sin though, unless you count this lineup as one.

Yes, Laz, we know you hate Coldplay.

Not really a Foo Fighters fan, either, aside from that first album.

The Perry Ferrell of '91 would have overdosed had he known Coldplay was headlining his festival, let alone over a rawk band.

Exactly. Of course, I don't think fucking Metallica headlining in 1996 was part of his original vision, either. That's the year I stopped going.
