I just saw this on twitter because Patton Oswalt retweeted the pussy thing. Kanye West is a fucking baby and his jokes are about as funny as a 10 year old's

I liked that in his tweets, Kimmel had to say words to the extent of, this is real, I swear. Once you do shit like the Twerking video, people are never going to quite trust you again.

so this first interview is real

Quote:
On making music that’s confrontational
“So I’m gonna take music and I’m going to try to make it three-dimensional, like [long pause], like in Star Wars, and the hologram’ll pop up out of R2-D2. I’ma try to make something that jumps up, and affects you, in a good or bad way.”

On not intending puns
“Everybody is like, bound to these—no pun intended, they’re bound to…”
“I’m gonna try to push Pusha T—no pun intended once again. This keeps happening to me.”

On radio
“I was talking to Frank Ocean about this and said, like, my mom got arrested for the sit-ins, and now we’re more like the sit-outs, like sit off of radio, and say, ‘Hey, radio, come to us.’ We need to find something new because it’s being controlled in a way and manufactured in a way that really awesome artists can make amazing music and not break as far past as something that’s very formulaic.”

On race and being marginalized
“I’ve reached a point in my life where my Truman Show boat has hit the painting. And I’ve got to a point that Michael Jackson did not break down. I have reached the glass ceiling. As a creative person, as a celebrity. When I say that, it means, I want to do product, I am a product person. Not just clothing, but water bottle design, architecture, everything, you know, that you could think about. And I’ve been at it for 10 years, and I look around, and I say, wait a second, there’s no one in this space that looks like me, and if they are, they’re quiet as fuck. So that means, wait a second, now we’re seriously, like, in a civil rights movement.”

On fashion
“Me and Virgil [Abloh] are in Rome, giving designs to Fendi, over and over, and getting our designs knocked down … [We] brought the leather jogging pants six years ago to Fendi, and they said ‘no.’ How many motherfuckers you done seen with a leather jogging pant?”

On hip-hop’s cultural dominance
“When I see Hedi Slimane, and it’s all like, okay, this is my take on the world. Yeah, he’s got some nice $5,000 jeans in there. It’s some nice ones here and there, some good shit here and there. But we culture. Rap the new rock and roll. We culture. Rap is the new rock and roll. We the rock stars. [Zane Lowe: “It’s been like that now for a minute.”] It’s been like that now for a minute, Hedi Slimane! It’s been like that now for a minute. We the rock stars, and I’m the biggest of all of them.”
i've been wearing those leather jogging pants for years and I never knew I had kanye to thank for it.

Ye should be more offended by how unfunny the bit was than anything else.

It was ignorant commentary to begin with. Yeah, rappers are the rock stars of today and yeah, rappers have to be their own hype men these days as the notion of hype men/rap groups in general has become quite outdated. But I don't expect Jimmy fucking Kimmel to know the first thing about hip hop, so it's cool. Kanye flew off the handle over quite literally nothing.

I love that Kanye is a public figure who says ridiculous shit then gets bent of shape over someone who's JOB it is to ridicule public figures. It's like a perpetual motion machine of awesome.

I can't wait to sit down in the coming days and watch/listen to the whole Zane Lowe interview.

The skit made me chuckle a little, but Kimmel's whole lead-in was extraordinarily unfunny.

Shit I love Kanye. I'm glad I have four or five others here who share my blind love for the man.

Honestly, that's one of the reasons I love the dude so much. It's easy to clown on the guy, but the fact of the matter is no one is as refreshingly real and raw and candid as he is. He's so unapologetically himself. He pours so much energy into everything he does and is so genuinely passionate about his projects.

I'd rather watch his Zane Lowe interview 1000 times than the shitty Letterman/Boner thing in which nothing of substance was said.

As a fellow musician, I do have mad respect for Kanye. I love that he isn't a dilettante for art and fashion but pours himself into those scenes like he does everything else, even though his work in those fields isn't as celebrated. He seems like the kind of person who, if he didn't have some sort of creative outlet, would completely lose his mind. Typically, that results in the best work.

I do feel sorry for Kanye fans who look up to him as a person because he always disappoints on a basic human level, but then I think it's usually best to know nothing about your favorite artists. It's a disservice to Kanye that he's under the microscope so often.

Did you find yourself utterly enthralled by the 30-minute version of Runaway and extended versions of the 808 tracks on the last tour?

BTW, the New Slaves beat used on Zane Lowe was absolutely terrifying. And the vocal layering on BOTL was fantastic. Great performances all around; the hype for the tour is reaching critical mass right about now.

I thought "Runaway" was pure emotion, loved the performance. And I don't recall any of the 808s songs being extended, not noticeably so at least.

Memories of that show are what have me thinking of dropping all that money on a ticket for December when I'll probably end up seeing him at a festival next year anyway.

Oh man, Say You Will went for 10 minutes at the gig I saw, he went on this hilarious tangent about how he was flirting with some girl over text. Runaway was great, felt sorry for the dancer though.

I'll definitely part with a lot next time he's out here, if that happens again. Can't believe I've technically seen him twice... he opened for U2 in 06, when I wasn't interested. Idiot.
