YouTube - Clipse feat. Cam'ron - "Popular Demand"

While I know and understand why this may rub some hip-hop enthusiasts the wrong way, I am nevertheless here to praise Cam for this hilarious, only-Cam-would-try-this non sequitur: "Drive a hard bargain, I'm Harlem's only Gagarin." As in, Yuri Gagarin. The Soviet cosmonaut and first man in space. Brilliant.

Big Boi is currently on Martha Stewart in order to support Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son Of Chico Dusty.

"So your new single, Shutterbugg...it's spelled with two Gs. Do you just spell things however you want?"

It was...awkward....really...really awkward.

Favorite part? Big Boi's mother talking about how she had to bail him out back in da day.

You pulled some straight gangsta shit back thurr, Martha. You had the eye of the fucking tiger, girl. What are you doing here?

was anyone a Nelly fan?

i loved these two albums five years ago (and still do, though i don't listen to them anymore)

Country Grammar was craaaaaaazy popular when I was in middle school. Everyone knew HOT SHIT, E.I., St. Louie, and Ride Wit Me, the latter of which I still think has a great, great hook.

And then Nellyville was pretty damn popular for a brief moment, too, but it really wasn't all that good and then...then he started making songs with Tim McGraw and appearing in late night BET softcore porn music videos and he disappeared and now he is an utter embarrassment.

couldn't agree with you more. Ride Wit Me (great hook indeed) was my favourite song for about two years.

his new song makes me want to vomit, and i haven't vomited in about 15 years.

I've been spinning Wiz Khalifa for awhile now, and I can't get mad at a Toto/"Africa" sample, particularly when it's a collab with Curren$y. (Still not sure why it's titled "Huey Newton" though...)

From Fresno, CA...Fashawn. Dude's incredible.

Freddie Gibbs is attempting to singlehandedly bring gangsta rap back to the forefront of hip-hop. It doesn't hurt that he's one of the most talented MCs to emerge in recent years. "World So Cold" is on par with some of Tupac's best ballads—"Dear Mama," etc.

And, because I have to constantly rep Minneapolis, here's a homecoming performance of Atmosphere's "Always Coming Back Home to You."

I listened to the Fashawn song and the two Freddie Gibbs songs. Thanks for posting. Wasn't incredibly impressed with either of them, but I liked Fashawn better. The Tupac comparison for Gibbs is a tricky one, because his voice is just nowhere near as distinct and charismatic and, well, good as Pac's. The songs were alright, though.

I've never listened to Atmosphere, though I know they have a huge following up in Minnesota.

Oh, for sure. Any comparisons to greats are difficult. But, the Tupac parallel, for me, comes in the subject matter. Tupac is still far more intelligent and diverse—due to his mom's Black Panther upbringing and all—but Gibbs has some interesting things to say about the economic situations in Gary, Indiana as well. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to listen.

Seriously, check the Atmosphere sometime...it's not only a huge following in Minnesota now; their last album debuted at #4 on the Billboard charts.

And, if I can ask because I'm curious (this is also an open question to anyone who might stumble in here), what's the sort of thing you look for in an MC?

Very pretty, and I'm excited for any scraps he can offer, but not terribly substantial. Also, is it just my laptop speakers or is the mixing horrible on this?

since Travis was listening to it on speakers, I was privy to it as well, and I'm just not that impressed. I know I'm not a huge hip-hop fan, but I'm as antsy for this album to come out as anyone. I'm hoping this isn't really finished, because it sounds like it could be so much more, but as it is is just a groundwork for something better. It's pretty, really pretty.

Also, I'm not by any means an expert on Akon, but which part was he singing? :uhoh:. And was Snoop really there at all?

Probably laptop speakers. It sounded solid on my headphones, and it's supposedly the CD quality version, but of course, that doesn't mean they didn't screw up the mix.

And, yeah, it's nothing special, just a club jam. I can understand how people might be a bit miffed at waiting a decade for it. Regardless, if Detox ever drops, I'll be right there listening.

Akon's doing the chorus, and Snoop has the second verse.
