Let the listening begin...

As previously mentioned, each Master List thread will appear approximately two weeks apart to allow adequate time for hearing all playlists. Hopefully this will greatly enhance the experience for everyone involved.

I will be sending out PMs with links for these five playlists to all players, as well as any additional listeners who express interest in participating. As of right now, I've got hardyharhar and Screwtape2 on that list.

Here are our first five entries, in the order they were received:

If I've gained a reputation for anything in this competition, it's perfectionism, particularly in regards to sequencing. I tend to spend a lot of time tweaking that facet of my lists, but this entry took that to an extreme; I have been working on this list (on and off) for the past 18 months, and the version of it you see today has been drawn from two other versions, tacking on a few of my recent favorites while taking the best unique choices from its ancestors. The result is, surprisingly, not a mess at all; you couldn't pass this list off as conceptual, but recurring themes of love, loneliness, restlessness and self-discovery pop up now and again. The original version of this list was comically diverse musically, but it has since cohered into something that I feel represents my tastes exceptionally well; if nothing else, this list will give you a reason not to bother with my subsequent entries...at least until I break out my Estonian chillwave list for DI13.

LM, if you could forward the links to Ashley since her PM box is full, that would be great.

The only other person whose box is full is Cute Irish Bono, so I'll have to email them to her.

These look great, y'all.

And it seems that Surfer Blood has officially stormed the Interference consciousness.

not nearly enough Justin Bieber.

I just noticed it's A Hazy Shade Of Winter instead of Celia in the 2nd spot on my list, but the time and the album are correct. Woops!

Not sure why they didn't work in the PM.

...and also, Ashley's links are coming up as invalid. All the rest are downloading just fine.

I'll probably listen to The Tourist's tonight while I'm studying for an exam (If a spot in the library with access to a power source will ever open up :grumpy: )

These look great, can't wait :D

ETA: didn't notice Liam's there. He'll be up first then.

Also, yes, I realize I am an idiot, I didn't notice until after I turned my list in that the very first two tracks on it are from the 70s/90s. Let's uh, just pretend like I did that on purpose.

Ok, kicking off Liam's list, but I am studying right now, so I won't be commenting too often (I hope XD)

I was going to post a few times as I was listening, but I'd forgotten we kind of ditched the idea of running diaries. Shame.

Anyways, the opening three tracks were just superb, great way to kick off the list.

Warren Zevon was probably my favorite track that I didn't already know

The spot with "Islands" and "Part II B" was long, but fantastic music to read about English history too ;)

The list begins to be a bit of a test of stamina after a while, but the songs are good, so it's worthwhile to sit through them, I'm just not sure if everyone will feel that way.

Also love any chance to hear something by Phish without having to actively go out looking for it ;).

Pretty great list, Liam. Really enjoyed it, fairly mellow, which was cool. Didn't really flow too well, but, the song selection more than made up for it.

Nice... I need to attempt to upload mine again. Stealing from the neighbors means a mediocre internet connection.

I'm gonna start listening to Imp's while I make island plans. I've got almost two weeks off of school

I spent all of three hours putting together a playlist for this yesterday. It's now done. Once I upload the tracks, it'll be ready to roll.

Listened to Imp's...quite a pleasant little dreamy playlist. Ultimately not really my style, though it was definitely well put together - good flow and all that. I didn't dislike anything, but nothing really stood out either. Still, I can see myself listening to it while relaxing on a beach or something. It's a good playlist for a chill kinda mood.

Just sent mine in. I spent by far the least amount of time on this list than any I've submitted, but I actually feel like it's good.

Trying to download the tourist's but my internet went out and I have to start back at the beginning...ugh

I made some changes to mine so I'm listening to it to make sure everything flows well, then I'll zip and submit

And yeah, good luck with the long songs, guys.

pfft. Dogs is the third longest. piece of piss.

well mine's done, just gotta upload. downloading El Mel's list as we speak.

also just wanted to add, that it would have been nice to have a running diary, but we don't, so everyone make sure to get into this and post plenty of comments for the playlists.

I'm listening to Tourist's tonight. In lieu of a running diary, I will post short individual comments in 5-10 minute intervals throughout a 2 hour, 40 minute time frame.

I see what you did there, Andrew. Forcing people to waste 20 minutes of their time shifting songs into the correct order makes the experience more memorable. Good call.

I'm confused by what you mean by this... because they're all correctly tagged. At least in iTunes.

Well, the thing is, though they are numbered, they weren't placed into separate folders, which would have made dragging and dropping the sections a whole lot easier. I don't use iTunes, so it was just a big jumble of tracks for me that I had to sort through and shift around. On top of that, Shangri-La was corrupt, so I had to download Arthur to get it.

Anyway, he moral of the story? Use folders. It's so much easier for everyone and it takes like 15 seconds to do it before you upload. I'm sorry that came across as so bitter, but this part of DI is always my least favorite; sorting through untagged/corrupt tracks, bitching about it, and then feeling like a douchebag for doing so.

Now, let's begin.

Huh. Sorry about that. It's odd. I downloaded it after I uploaded it and put it back into my iTunes. I sorted it by the album title once I clicked on the genre (Desert Island) and it was all perfect. It's how I've done every entry to desert island so far.

using itunes i had no trouble organising andrew's list in one click. plus it's more or less the same album title, so it'll be easier to delete afterwards. which really should be a desert island rule.

also shangri-la seems to be fine.

I'm sure I'm just behind the times. I have iTunes, I just have it set so it doesn't automatically sync with my library, so it's a pain going out of my way to add anything to it.

Forgiven all the same when your list is starting out so strong. Shame about the unfortunate cuts in and out of A Hazy Shade Of Winter; Bookends is a beautiful experience, but using tracks from it is a pain. Using America was tricky for me.

also shangri-la seems to be fine.

Huh, it was corrupted for Ashley and I.
