Mylo Xyloto doesn't have one song in the same league as NLOTH, Moment of Surrender, Breathe or Cedars of Lebanon. Not one.

One person who reviewed one album liked it more than a different person who reviewed a different album? Wow, that's never happened in the history of music!

7/10 seems about right, after multiple listens. It's sort of a quintessential Coldplay album... lots of Bono-style "whoah oh ohs," some shiny radio singles, and a couple of pretty piano ballads. But try as they might, this band just can't summon the same gravitas that U2 has.
Best song is Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall, by a pretty good margin. One of their 3 or 4 best ever. |

Minus the awful title and lyric "hurts like heaven", and perhaps the overly fabricated "woah"s, everything else is good about it. |

Pretty simple question, I think. Is there anything on Mylo Xyloto that does more you than NLOTH's peaks?
Obviously, GAF and Laz have contrasting opinions ready to go. |

I'd agree that nothing on Mylo Xyloto is as strong as NLOTH's title track or Moment of Surrender.
Everything on Mylo Xyloto is stronger than Unknown Caller. Everything in my last post-Arby's bowel movement is stronger than Unknown Caller. |

Unknown Caller blows pretty hard, yeah.
Still really dig that solo though. |

Well your original post made it seem as though nothing on Mylo Xyloto (even the best) gets to anything on NLOTH, which I disagree.

No it didn't. Which is why he listed only four tracks instead of saying "everything".
Get some fucking glasses. |

Normally, I can't understand the U2/Coldplay comparisons, but I do believe the concept of remixing an unabashed pop song like Crazy Tonight was influential on the sound of this record. They wrote some of the most saccharine songs of their career and gave them an electro pulse. They can pawn that off on top 40 radio if it gets Rihanna on their songs, but Crazy Tonight would fit like a glove on this album, in either incarnation. |

Also, I'm curious: is Unknown Server reviled simply because of the computer/cell phone lyrics? Do you also hate the vocal melody of the verses, the lyrics in the verses, the chanting of the chorus, Hedge's darker shadings under the verses, and that solid, if not groundbreaking solo?
It seems odd to act like a song is worthless when there's only one questionable element. By comparison, there are a lot more issues to be found in Stand Up Referee and Cock Crazy, which have a good number of things that bother me lyrically, melodically, etc. |
