i wouldn't be able to tell you the name of any of the other band members. hopefully this turns out to be some good shit. his voice is for me the reason Bloc rises/rose above the ten million other dance/indie/electro/pop acts out there.

i'm tipping it'll be as personal as Intimacy.

I'm excited for him, and awaiting the release, but I'm not sure how much enjoyment I'll get out of a dance/club-inspired album, let's hope the lyrics will still shine through.

Also, the recent comments from other bandmates make it seem that the hiatus will be short-lived, and that they are eager to get back in the studio later this year to work on stuff they wrote on tour in 2009.

I'm not trying to be an ass here, and I think you all know how much I absolutely LOVE this band (though Matt is far and away my favorite), BUT . . .

. . . I've seen Bloc many times live and, let me tell you -- Kele's voice isn't really that good. Truth be told, Kele's voice is the least impressive thing about Bloc Party. There's definitely studio trickery involved to get it to sound the way it does on the albums. It's not absolute shit. But it's not as good as it is on the albums either.

I read the same thing too from Russell. Power, did you hear those same comments also from Gordy or Matt?

No I'm referring to the same quote from Russell, but I take it especially well since he's one of the members working on side-material.

And about Kele's voice, no he doesn't have an amazing technical voice, but he has a unique sound (even live) that adds to what makes their sound stand out to me.

Granted, i haven't seen them live since their debut US tour, but I don't remember his voice being any different than it is on the albums live. Has it really gone that far downhill?

I don't think so .

Also, I'm looking for some good 2009 tour bootlegs, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Saw that on Pitchfork yesterday. "Electronic pop" works for me.

True. I will agree with this.

It's not that his voice doesn't "sound" like it does on the albums. It's more that his voice cracks during shows a bit often and he goes off key, enough so it's noticeable, and his voice doesn't quite have the power or strength that it does on the albums. Add them all up, and it's always left me with the impression that his voice live is diminished and not as impressive as it is recorded.

But then, on the other hand, he's got one hell of a frontman, stage presence that compensates for what his vocal abilities can't deliver.

If it's anything like 'Mercury', 'Ion Square' or 'Your Visits Are Getting Shorter', then color me super excited to hear this album.

Fitzy, he's been quoted as saying fans shouldn't expect it to sound like Bloc material... we'll see.

Some people just want their name as thread starter on a thread they know will be successful.

I have noticed that it seems to be pretty much black or white with Bloc Party. People either seem to love them or absolutely loathe them. There doesn't seem to be a lot of grey area in just somewhat liking them.

Maybe it's because it was my introduction to the band, but I really do dig Intimacy. Nowhere near as much as Silent Alarm though, and Napster still doesn't have Weekend in the City .
Finally heard Weekend in the City the other day. Loved it. Love all of their music lol. If I had to rank it'd be Silent Alarm, Intimacy, Weekend in the City, but God, they're pretty much all equal.

Can't wait to hear Kele's album!

I love Bloc Party! Intimacy is probably my favorite album, but I also like Silent Alarm.

I'm excited for Kele's album. I'm not expecting it to be as good as the BP albums but I hope I'm surprised.
