B&C's 2016 Albums of the Year AKA End of Times Soundtrack

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

[Blank Face] got some from me and would have been on Imperor's list too I suspect. Great album.

Darn tootin'. Threw this together somewhat haphazardly and regret that I couldn't get Jenny Hval, Jessy Lanza, Nicolar Jaar, Solange, Sturgill, and many more on here. I also deliberately avoided EPs and "outtakes" joints, which eliminated CRJ, Kendrick, and Vinnie Stapes from contention. What a wonderful year for music and horrid year for everything else.

1. Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool (12)
2. A Tribe Called Quest - We Got It From Here, Thank You 4 Your Service (11)
3. David Bowie - Blackstar (11)
4. Frank Ocean - Blonde (10)
5. Kanye West - The Life of Pablo (10)
6. Car Seat Headrest - Teens of Denial (8)
7. Danny Brown - Atrocity Exhibition (8)
8. Angel Olsen - My Woman (8)
9. Blood Orange - Freetown Sound (7)
10. ScHoolboy Q - Blank Face (5)
11. Chairlift - Moth (4)
12. Anderson Paak - Malibu (3)
13. Beyonce - Lemonade (1)
14. Yumi Zouma - Yoncalla (1)
15. Pusha T - Darkest Before Dawn (1)

First vote for Freetown Sound, which is surprising. I thought it would receive some more support (even though it didn't make it to my top-15).

Finding out that there's a band called Mint Julep made my day. I hope they come from Kentucky.

Afraid not, based in Portland. Broken Devotion is a great synthpop album.

If Axver fabricated half the names on his list, would anyone here even know?

Some of you should check them out and let me know how awesome/fabricated they really are.

So this thread got me thinking: 70% the decade (2010-2019) is now behind us. What are your favorite records so far? I haven't put that much thought into it, but here's my quick initial list (in no particular order, except that MBDTF is most likely the album of the decade):

Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
St. Vincent - Strange Mercy
Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell
Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires of the City
Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly (good kid should probably make this list too, but keeping it to one per artist)
Tame Impala - Lonerism
Frank Ocean - Channel Orange
Beach House - Bloom
D'Angelo - Black Messiah
Carly Rae Jepsen - EMOTION

No 2016 albums in the list, but mostly because of recency, I think. I could see an argument for Lemonade, Blackstar, A Seat At The Table and AMSP for the top-10.

Edit: I can't believe The Suburbs or High Violet/Trouble Will Find Me aren't there, but I'm not sure which album should make room for them. Also, I originally forgot about Black Messiah, and had Kaputt on the list instead.

Edit 2: Ugh, I hate my list already for what it is missing. Maybe I need a top 20.

Good question. The two at the top for me are Carrie & Lowell and Push the Sky Away. Those would both be in my top ten or fifteen albums ever.

Yeah, I think Carrie & Lowell will be near the top of most lists by the end of the decade. Somehow, it has only gained in acclaim and emotional resonance since its release. A rare feat, since it was already pretty much universally liked from day 1.

Good idea. Hmm, I don't think I can make a ranking, but here's an alphabetical list of a rough top twenty, also sticking to only one album per artist:

Alcest: Shelter (2014)
Caspian: Waking Season (2012)
Cult of Luna & Julie Christmas: Mariner (2016)
Eagulls: Eagulls (2014)
Film School: Fission (2010)
Grimes: Art Angels (2015)
The Hotelier: Home, Like Noplace Is There (2014)
The Hundred in the Hands: The Hundred in the Hands (2010)
Infinite Void: Infinite Void (2012)
The Joy Formidable: The Big Roar (2011)
Marnie: Crystal World (2013)
Pinback: Information Retrieved (2012)
Priest: Priest (2015)
Purity Ring: Another Eternity (2015)
Save Ends: Warm Hearts, Cold Hands (2013)
Thrushes: Exposing Seas (2015)
Turnover: Peripheral Vision (2015)
Unison: Unison (2011)
White Lung: Deep Fantasy (2014)
Wolf Alice: My Love Is Cool (2015)

Without question I think 2015 is the best year of the decade, if not for much longer.

My albums of the year have been:

2010: The National, High Violet
2011: Radiohead, The King of Limbs
2012: Beach House, Bloom
2013: Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Push the Sky Away
2014: Wild Beasts, Present Tense
2015: Sufjan Stevens, Carrie & Lowell
2016: Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Skeleton Tree

Good call on Grimes, Ax. Art Angels would probably make it somewhere between 10-20 on my list.
