B&C's 2015 Albums of the Year AKA The One Time A Year Peef Uses Math

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
More like the rules we've used for several years.

Right. I know this. You should know I know this. I've been around for a long time. However, for other things, like desert island, rules have changed. Why should rules be so set in stone? Does it really matter what interference ranks as the best album of the year enough that we have to explain how we got our results and letting a little simple math get in the way...? Shouldn't threads like this be begging for participation instead of auto-DQing people for not listing to tons of albums?

That's the problem right there. This is not a freaking competition. It's an aggregation of different lists. One that uses the same parameters so that they can be comparable. I'm not sure it's that hard to understand.

You can't participate in the competitive aspect of this thread,

The only reason I referred to it as a competition.

Competitive aspect. There's a lot more to this thread than determining an overall winner. In fact, a winner is only determined to encourage others to listen to it if they haven't already. Nobody participating wins anything, unless we introduce a raffle or something. Perhaps next year.

Anyway, half of these lists need to be dropkicked off a cliff for not having To Pimp a Butterfly on them.

I'm pretty sure he meant the competition between the albums, not something personal between people.

No one's list "wins" as in Desert Island.

Yeah, shit, this new Baroness album is good. I've never heard anything by them but I'll make time for the other albums.

They're all good. Enjoying the new quite a bit so far, listening to Shock Me pretty much daily.

I've listened to that Wolf Alice album several times, it never really stuck with me.

I find it interesting that Courtney Barnett is turning up all over the critics' lists but barely at all here. Personally I never found her to be remotely as clever as a lot of people were claiming.

We've only had a handful turned in.

She'll be very high on mine.

EDIT: Looks like nine have been turned in. Still a pretty small sample.

I feel like Courtney Barnett isn't all that great; it feels like she's ripping off from so many people that it sounds like her original style and people are cheering all over her new record like NPR music does.

I had Barnett as my #3 album and Depreston as my #2 song. I can't say enough good things about her.

I just caught up on the latest in this thread and I had no idea collating some lists to find B&C's albums of the year could be so contentious.

The maximum amount of points you're allowed to give to one album is 15.

Also, I should probably listen to the Baroness album as it's getting lots of praise here. I've listened to some of their previous albums and enjoyed them, but they've never stuck with me.

Here goes.

1. Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp A Butterfly (15)
2. Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell (0 12)
3. Deafheaven - New Bermuda (11)
4. Joanna Newsom - Divers (10)
5. Pinkshinyultrablast - Everything Else Matters (9)
6. Julia Holter - Have You In My Wilderness (8)
7. Grimes - Art Angels (7)
8. Disclosure - Caracal (6)
9. Tame Impala - Currents (6)
10. Speedy Ortiz - Foil Deer (4)
11. Jamie xx - In Colour (4)
12. Destroyer - Poison Season (4)
13. Balthazar - Thin Walls (2)
14. Joey Bada$$ - B4.DA.$$ (1)
15. Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Chasing Yesterday (1)

It's a shame Kendrick won't win. I hope he at least comes second.

I'll do some songs of the year if I get around to it.

Definitely check it out, it's a lot of fun.

Will do. I can also gladly inform you that I listened to the new Health record and liked it. It was definitely more accessible than I expected based on the few older songs I have listened to in the past.

Wow, this thread. Not sure tourist quite deserved the vitriol thrown his way, but whatevahhh.

CB will be on my list, and Kendrick will be getting #1 and 15 points.
