Can someone enlighten me on Air? Good band? Recommended albums? And most importantly, what do they sound like? Thanks!

French electronic music. I like it. Their album 'Moon Safari' is supposedly a classic. I dont have it but the 2 singles 'Sexy Boy' and 'Kelly Watch the Stars' from it are both great.

I have their latest album '10,000hz Legend'. It's a much more alternative electronic sound. Very cool. I recommend the songs 'How Does it Make You Feel' , 'Radio #1' , and 'Dont Be Light'. The song 'The Vagabond' off of this album features Beck doing vocals, so you may also enjoy that.

Great stuff if you're at all into electronic or dance music.

Very very good.

Moon Safari is more consistent to many people.

10000Hz legend is much more interesting, and in my opinion preferable

mostly harmless it seems squid.
I don't have their albums, but I like their ambient feel when I hear them on the radio, they've done a couple of collaborations too I think.
I first heard/saw "Sexy Boy" as a film clip on TV quite some time ago and loved it instantly. They stood out from the crowd at the time.

Thanks for the info, everyone! They sound good, perhaps I will buy an album..

This thread is the only thread for AIR I could find. :tsk:

I  this band.

Their last album Pocket Symphony was pretty good, for me its a toss up between Moon Safari and Talkie Walkie as to which is their best.

AIR will release their fifth studio album, ‘Love 2′, in mid-October 2009

Internationally revered French electronic pop duo AIR (Jean-Benoit Dunckel and Nicolas Godin) , will release their fifth studio album Love 2 in mid-October. It is the follow-up to 2007’s acclaimed Pocket Symphony, and the first production to emanate from, Atlas, their very own state-of-the-art recording Studio.

Nestled in the leafy backstreets of northern Paris, Atlas provided a creative haven for the band to produce these twelve new songs. Writing and producing entirely by themselves for the first time, they have cemented their association with LA-based drummer/percussionist Joey Waronker, who had previously joined them for their intimate, three-man “Close up” tour of south-east Asia in the Fall of 2008. Stéphane “Alf” Briat, a long-time fixture of the Paris music scene, whose work with AIR dates back to some of their earliest material, also came on board for the final mixdown at Atlas.

A viral single Do The Joy will be made available digitally on July 6th. This will be followed by a formal single release of the summery pop anthem Sing Sang Sung on August 24th.

AIR’s 1998 debut album Moon Safari struck a unanimously harmonious chord with music lovers around the globe and has since become an electronic pop classic. Since then AIR have enjoyed many career-defining moments and accolades, both at home and abroad, and have written, produced and collaborated on a breathtaking array of music projects.

With 5.5 million worldwide album sales to their credit, the band has become de facto ambassadors of modern French pop. Fans are drawn back to each new musical adventure by their inventive arrangements, and a playful yet unpredictable palette of sounds and songcraft.

AIR will embark on a European tour in early 2010 starting at the legendary Casino de Paris in their hometown and will then embark on North American dates during the Spring.

I really need to get Talkie Walkie, I really like the songs I've heard from it. I should probably get Pocket Symphony as well, I only have Moon Safari and 10,000hz. These guys' output has been surprisingly solid over the course of their career. For some reason, it seems like most electronic acts just end up having one big album and then dying off, not these guys.

I concur, this is all I know about Air.

Here are a couple of my favourite songs to get you started:

Off their First album; Moon Safari:

YouTube - Air - Talisman

YouTube - Air - La Femme D'Argent

YouTube - Air - Kelly watch the stars video

Off their Second album; 10,000 Hz Legend:

YouTube - Radian - Air

YouTube - Air - The Vagabond

Off their Third Album; Talkie Walkie:

YouTube - Cherry Blossom Girl - Air

YouTube - Air - Mike Mills

YouTube - Alone in Kyoto AIR

Off their Fourth Album; Pocket Symphony:

YouTube - Air - Space Maker

YouTube - Air - Mer du Japon video

YouTube - Air Somewhere Between Waking and Sleeping

I like it, seems simpler and shorter, no guest vocals so it reminds me more of Talkie Walkie in a way, a little more "chill 70's/Moon Safari" vibe going this time around as well... Not as much 10,000 Hz sound as I initially detected.

It takes me a while to really get into their stuff though so it will take a few spins.
