As a part of my english class' bible unti, we are required to write a paper about a symbol from the bible, and use 2 works of literature to explain it, etc. U2 obviously has a lot of religious things in their songs, but what are some that really mention/are about jesus? No explanations of the song please, just the name or w/e. When I mean mention Jesus, I don't mean songs such as silver & gold with "jesus, say something, i am someone"I was thinking about Wake Up Dead Man, even though that's not by U2. Thanks!

Which Wake up Dead Man are you listening to? That was the first song that I thought of!

How about If God will send his Angels, Mofo or Tomorrow?

Try the Bible reference index thing at atu2.com. It might help.

Um...yes. Wake Up Dead Man, Until the End of the World, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For...and...my mind is going blank for some reason.

Since when was Wake Up Dead Man not by U2? In that case, who made the Pop CD?

Gloria, Fire, With A Shout (Jerusalem), and 40 might be some you might want to consider.

My bad :reject:i got the info about it confused with another song! sorry about the confusion! thanks for the help everyone! I think i'm going to use Wake Up Dead Man and either ISHFWILF, 40 or When I Look at the World

40 is a great song but technically it was based on a passage from the old testament, therefore before Jesus.

I think the original poster just wants a symbol from the Bible, not necessarily one about Jesus ...

"Until The End of the World" is about Judas.
BTW. I'm new here... sorta kinda.
Roman Catholic.
... I AM the Prodigal Son.
Anyway, good thread.

Peace.

Thanks for the help, everyone! I finished my paper, and am going to turn it in wednesday providing that school isn't closed. I used Wake Up Dead Man, but at the last minute decided against using FAYF and used Pride ( references from atu2.com)

ummmmmmmm, What about:

Grace
Peace On Earth
If God Would Send His Angels
"40"....(Verse from bible)
In God's Country
Still Haven't Found...........
and those songs where Bono ends singing
"Halelujah".........Means" Used to express
praise or joy. The exclamation of "hallelujah..2) A musical composition expressing praise and based on the hallelujah..(Hebrew for praise the Lord)

U2 Lyrics about Christianity/Religion
Jesus (and for Christian readers---he is the Lord):

In Gloria (October Album)
Gloria...in te domine
Gloria...exultate
Gloria...Gloria
Oh Lord, loosen my lips

From With A Shout (October Album)
I wanna go
To the foot of the messiah
To the foot of he who made me see
To the side of a hill
Where we were still
We were filled
With our love

In Sunday Bloody Sunday (War Album)
"The real battle just begun
To claim the victory Jesus won"

for you history buffs. Sunday Bloody Sunday-refers to the
January 30, 1972, soldiers from the British Army's opened fire on unarmed and peaceful civilian demonstrators. But still, it is an important reli-historical moment in Irish history.

From Peace on Earth (All U Leave Album)
Jesus can you take the time
To throw a drowning man a line
Peace on Earth
Tell the ones who hear no sound
Whose sons are living in the ground
Peace on Earth

From 40 (War Album)
I waited patiently for the Lord
He inclined and heard my cry
He brought me up out of the pit
Out of the miry clay
He set my feet upon a rock
And made my footsteps firm
Many will see
Many will see and fear

Three Sunrises (from Wide awake)
Spirit of the rising sun lift me up
Hold me there and never let me fall
Love me 'til I die, my heart won't wait
Soon I will be loved...

Jesus- the "Sun" or "Son of Spirit (GOD)

Last Night on Earth (Pop Album)
She's not waiting on a saviour to come
She's at the bus-stop with News of the World and the Sun
Sun, here it comes
She's not waiting for anyone
--not really a Jesus/Reli-history song....but it's jus neat.
one of my fav

Hope this helps...Hope it wasn't too long either!

wait...has no one mentioned Drowning Man?

Hold on, hold on tightly
Hold on, hold on tightly
Rise up, rise up
With wings like eagles
You run, you run
You run and not grow weary

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. ~~Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)

EDIT: OK, I'm a dumbass really, Isaiah is clearly in the OLD Testament :reject:

Dronwning Man--Reply to A Reply
From Old Testament...
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. ~~Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)

But to some Christ is was and forever will be the LORD (I AM)
and that he will renew their strengths. (RENEW--new testament)

so I think Drowning Man is alright too!

I heard U2 perform a song titled, "Jesus" on my XM radio the other day. It was the first time that I heard this song, which sounded like a live performance.

I haven't been able to find any info. about it, but maybe someone on this board can help you. At least now you know it is out there and it directly pertains to your paper.

Good luck!

Are you thinking of the Woody Guthrie song that Bono performed with a Gospel choir during the R & H years?

I think itt's entitled "Jesus Christ". If you search the various U2 fansites, you'll find a mention of it somewhere.

It was a VERY INSPIRED performance by a very inspiring man.

ummm vertigo.

playboy mansion - heaven....

wake up dead man of course.

gloria....

mysterious ways (holy spirit).....

Won't you come back tomorrow
Won't you come back tomorrow
Won't you come back tomorrow
Can I sleep tonight

Outside
Somebody's outside
Somebody's knocking at the door
There's a black car parked
At the side of the road
Don't go to the door
Don't go to the door

I'm going out
I'm going outside mother
I'm going out there

Won't you be back tomorrow
Won't you be back tomorrow
Will you be back tomorrow

Who broke the window
Who broke down the door
Who tore the curtain
And who was He for

Who healed the wounds
Who heals the scars
Open the door
Open the door

Won't you come back tomorrow
Won't you be back tomorrow
Will you be back tomorrow
Can I sleep tonight

Cause I want you...I...I want you...
I really...I...I want...I...I...
I want you to be back tomorrow
I want you to be back tomorrow
Will you be back tomorrow
Won't you be back tomorrow
Won't you be back tomorrow
Will you be back tomorrow
Open up, open up
To the lamb of God
To the love of he who made
The light to see you
He's coming back
He's coming back
I believe it

****************************
Jesus coming
****************************

I'm gonna be there
I'm gonna be there mother
I'm gonna be there mother
I'm going out there
And you're gonna be there...
