I'd love to say that is was entirely a "green" choice, but it's not.
Due to my HATRED of mowing, my digging/pooping/romping dog, the bizarre footprint of my house on my property, and to a lesser but important step of becoming a greener homeowner, my yard is now completely without grass.
We have lived in the house for 16 years. A couple of years ago, we landscaped our front yard together with our neighbor's with rocks, some native plants and a rain garden. Now, with my (hopefully) final load of bagged mulch, my back yard is now grass-free.
So, other than pulling weeds and adding mulch occasionally, my yard is relatively maintenance free, and therefore my overall carbon footprint is smaller.
Small Victories--I'll take them where I can get them.
