The Fly
Wipe Clean Eyes
remember
desert nights
stars stretched out into a thousand miles
soft sands, sagebrushed islands
arroyos and saguaros imprint identities
reaching and grabbing
walking instead
surrounding
crawling around
comfort in growth
Tonight sleep
remember and know
forever and eternity belong here
remember
forest life
green ferns and moss lay
roots dug their way
paths exposed naked flesh
carry an axe
cut ivy vines
slashed, burnt down
tilled soil
planted houses
hands reached into you
this lavishness hides scars
can this grow any more?
remember
wavering grass
tall dreams
past
roots longer
seeds tall
throughout the park a sprawling wall
springtime green gives way to
brown in the fall
laid to watch the sun
plus another you are still just one
burnt down, turned to ash
After the winter, grow new grass
remember
ocean waves
lasting lapping upon drifting dunes
salt heals calloused hand
inside open arms
I rest
feed
teach
clothed in kelp robes
I dream of boats on you
my boat is in you
these skies are made for sailing
remember
mountainous skies
momentous peace
wipe clean eyes
Pillaged, pilfered, plowed by greed
reckless neglect brought
harvested bounty
hillsides became mud
give back all given
protect
help
just to set free
What can I give?
perfection humbles me
remember
tremulous grounds
feel rattle
hear sounds
Shake away excess, despair, hate
Bring together soil, water and wait
Upon shores newness will grow
In lands the gods shall sow
grasses, trees and mountains will rise
wind brings wealth, water brings tides
I wait
I pray
I watch and dream
one day, the gods will be seen
the ground, the foundation
land upon which all rests
desire serves best?
wait, calm like the rest
remember

stars stretched out into a thousand miles
