Unnamed Sonnet - (gulp) my first time posting here...

I REALLY like your sonnet Sula

Ahem. *shuffles feet nervously* Well, I've never posted here before. But once upon a time, I attempted to write poetry...and well...try not to laugh too hard.

This is a sonnet I wrote around age 14 (wow, that was 7 years ago...I feel old. lol). It's not based on true life experience (so don't think I was bitter at some poor guy)...more on my observations of relationships at the time. As I was heavily engrossed in English Literature at the time, I wanted to experiment with the iambic pentameter and sonnet structure. I found out that it's harder than it looks! So for what it's worth... here ya go.

If I would climb the hills and swim the seas
If I was full of bright vivacity.
If I possessed endearing qualities
Could you find it in your heart to love me?
I may not have all this within myself
But should I try to be what I am not?
If you think what I am is not enough
Well, don't expect me to be too distraught.
I will not change to meet your every want
I do not need your love to carry on
And if you think your memory will haunt
For a memory to haunt there must BE one.
If you can't love me just for who I am,
Then you're not worthy to be called a man.
