Hey there, guys and gals! This is a new song/poem I wrote several weeks back, but wasn't sure if I should post it. I think it's one of the best pieces I ever wrote.

It essentially discusses how people seek the "promised land" in whatever incarnation, but too often or not, it is stolen by people even though there are folks already living in that "promised land". The last half of the song is the best part. I hope you enjoy! :)

So They Promised Us A Stolen Land...

The Promised Land…
Many need to know where.
So they promised us a stolen land..
And yet, those same people don’t really care.

One side breaks through their bondage,
As a dirty musket shoots out cries of freedom.
Elsehwere, an Indian is reaping the time left on his prized land,
For he failed to read the small print on this given Reservation.

At the Battle of Little Big Horn,
A Native American fights to protect all that he owns.
Meanwhile, a generational family member is basking in an inherited fortune,
Stuffing his wallet full of cash at the newly purchased Casino.

The Promised Land…
It cannot be ignored.
But they promised us a stolen land…
Something that our fore fathers forged.

You can look high on the desert plains for the Promised Land,
For that is where it was conceived.
But you’ll be closer on the glitzy side of town,
Since it’s a place that has to be seen to be believed.

Simply praying to God anymore,
Won’t get you very far.
Ashes fall on the President’s Wall Street Journal,
As he puffs on his second cigar.

The Promised Land…
For many, they swear they see a light.
But they promised us a stolen land…
If you know too much, they have methods to keep you quiet.

Mars, Athiena, and Zeus,
They had a special thing together.
But a young King came and took their crown,
Just to be seated at the right hand of his Father.

Who does Heaven belong to?
The Chrisitians, Muslims, or the Jews?
In this world of religious warfare and blind faith,
It is no longer your right to choose.

The Promised Land…
Once belonged to the Greeks, but now can only be inherited by the Meek.
So they promised us a stolen land…
But what about the ignorant and the weak?

This time belongs to you,
Every shaft of light, and all the colors.
You know she looks beautiful tonight,
So go ahead and tell her.

This land belongs to all of us,
One Body, One God, and One Voice.
Out of one can come many,
So what you do with your identity is your own choice.

The Promised Land…
It must be something in your heart.
This song is for the cowboys and religious zealots who stole the Promised Land…
For, at least, that was a start.

Excellent choice of words. Yes, they're all looking for that Promised Land...in fact, most don't even know what they are seeking except they're all out there searching for it.

My "Promised Land" exists within my heart and soul...in a place of unbounded time and destiny...I have been there before and I shall one day return.

You give a lot of yourself in your writings which is very good. Need I mention to keep posting.

The more I read, the better and better it got, and the more involved.

You bring up a really good point about all the religions in the world. I'm glad to see the greek gods in there, too. There really are so many....

If you ever get to take a course on modernism or sociology, remember your words here. Much of todays society has to do with just this - the global community. Things become marketed to the world globally, thigs get 'commodified'. Religion is a very intersting thing, because one can say truthfully

religion is all over the world

yet at the same time, all over the world, 'religion' has a different meaning..... I wonder if there will someday be a "global religon"....

(heh, maybe that is the worship of the almighty dollar... )

Thank you very much for the kind comments, For Honor and wizard! :) This was my "deepest" piece yet, I agree, and I'm glad you both appreciated the insight I provided. It really does give me the encouragement to write more.

Thanks again, you two! :D And keep reading...it will only get better from here, I promise. ;)
