The kitchen's dark

When I look out on the night sky
and feel its breath take me in,
A shadow of its comfort leaves me
moonlight is my days begin.

City lights flicker
I stand in the kitchen's dark
and write
Never knowing where the moon shall take me
oh when my heart will stop
and no longer cry

Walk back through the kitchen shadows
as the midnight hour is upon
Never wanting to become that sleeptime girl
or enter into that shallow bed.
