Simply put.....

As the soot and dirt and ash rained down,
We became one color.
As we carried each other down the stairs of the burning building,
We became one class.
As we lit candles of waiting and hope,
We became on generation.
As the firefighters and police fought their way into the inferno,
We became on gender.
As we fell onto our knees in prayer for stregnth,
We became one faith.
As we whispered or shouted words of encouragement,
We spoke one language.
As we gave our blood in lines a mile long,
We became one body.
As we mourned together a great loss,
We became one family.
As we cried tears of grief and loss,
We became one soul.
Aw we retell with pride the sacrafice of heros,
We become one people.

We are

One color
One class
One generation
One gender
One faith
One language
One body
One family
One soul
One people

We are The Power of One.
We are United.
We are America.

Peace to all.

what's truly amazing, is that for a brief time last year, I think this was really true, but I don't see that anymore, it's not human nature, still, it was nice to experience it one time in my life, even if it was for only a brief flicker...

I too feel that little by little it is slipping away.

I felt this way during New Year's 2000. The Y2K year. Everyone on earth, including Israel, celebrated the same thing for one day.

I felt it slip away too. It's so horribly sad that something like that had to happen, and then we can't even keep it together afterwards...
I guess grief really makes people vulnerable.
