Your spirit echoes in my soul,
Reverberating in the emptiness that you left,
When like a shooting star,
You escaped this life,
Before I had you in my grasp.

Before I could grasp all that you were,
And all that you meant to me.
Some perhaps were meant to be,
Shooting Stars.

To leave behind a trail of beautiful memories,
That fall from one?s mind like tears.
So happy to have glimpsed your beauty.
Yet so sorry that our time was short.

Gone before I could grasp all that you were,
And all that you meant to me.
Some perhaps were meant to be,
Shooting Stars.

Is it the plan that these Shooting Stars
Linger in one?s mind -
Longer, brighter than the others in the sky?
That we would remember their lives
And never forget to ask why?

face I had before the
world was made....**

**Work like you don't
need money, love like
you've never been hurt,
and dance like no
one's watching.**

When I was in preschool, I had a best friend. I don't know how old I was, extremely young I'm guessing. Anyway, one day, my dad took me out to our back yard. It was a warm sunny day, clear blue sky. He was dressed up in a coat and tie, I had been playing around. He told me that my friend had died. I didn't go to the funeral, I couldn't comprehend the idea that he was gone. It didn't hit me actually for a number of years. But something of him sticks with me still. Every so often I think of him, and the times we had. They were short, I can't fully appreciate our friendship, but I wonder what it could've been. He was my shooting star. Thanks for bringing that back to me. I hadn't thought of him in quite some time.

foray - yes, the poem Boy in Men's Clothing was about my brother at the time it was written.

popkidu2 - that's an incredible story, I'm glad that I could bring that memory to you. I think we all know a shooting star. I wrote this poem a while ago, shortly after seeing the PopMart video and the refrences Bono made to Michael Hutchens (I'm sorry if I misspelled his name). The other night a 16 yr. old from a neighboring town killed himself. I don't know the kid at all but many of my dance students do. I saw how it affected many of them, how it affects all of us, and I added the last stanza to the poem.
