shadows and tall goats

far far down, deep inside
demons and fairies and shadows reside
whispering demented stories
to lull the mind to somnolence
dreaming awake, I tried
imagining self with eyes open wide
but one?s mortal care atrophies
immersed in so much decadence

guilt was denied
as oblivion multiplied
merging of boundaries
between desire and sense
ephem?ral pride
self-crowned and deified
cherished unreal glories
absolute confidence

hope died
ashamed, undignified
crushed to its knees
by false pretense
soul cried
against its suicide
but those faint pleas
no deterrence
