seasonal stuff, and a green thumb...

SERENDIPITY

Here comes the overture again
they're beating on drums with frozen turkey legs
they're blowing huzzahs into twisted plumbing brass
can't pull my head from the sand
out of the plastic bag
from underneath the pillow

I searched dumpsters and medicine cabinets for answers
looked under the sink
looked through the bookcases
scanning volumes for a single line
a lazy susan of solutions
a rolodex of remedies
a bit of this
a hint of that
it's a demolition derby
a ten car pileup--
no one can go anywhere

so you make your way to the open road
the last place a man can truly unload;
everyone should hitchhike once--
be taken to an unnamed place,
get out and run around,
and get your shoesoles brown;
thumb out, thumb out, wherever you are

here comes the wrecking ball again
to topple the mansion of cards,
tumbling royal faces and their numbered subjects;
I crawled out from the rubble,
stumbled to the garden--
stopped to smell the flora,
ever-present,
all around,
it made me want to lay down,

spread my toes in the green strands,
they tickle my bare arms my neck my face,
an audience of daffodils,
gardenias lillies and the tulips,
the two lips that parted and spoke to me:
they mumbled and murmured,
they whispered and purred,
but I heard--
it was there I found my answer;
a chorus of poinsettias,
hyacinths daisies and the roses,
they rose me from my summer slumber,
and I know despite the loss of hours
that all girls should be named for flowers--
how neat and tidy that would be,
how neat and tidy that would be.

Some great lines esp in the first stanza,

"they're beating on drums with frozen turkey legs
they're blowing huzzahs into twisted plumbing brass"

I love this, mocking military tradition eh?

"here comes the wrecking ball again
to topple the mansion of cards,
tumbling royal faces and their numbered subjects;"

Again brilliant, it'll definitely take a few reads to get all of this piece in context

Good writing......like the following part........

"it's a demolition derby
a ten car pileup--
no one can go anywhere"

it never does seem to end....the demolition...the destruction....the death.

Nice seasonal poem, laz.

Women ... yes. Pretty flowers. Hmm... I might have to write something about that now myself... hmm.....
