"Promised Land"

Time you wasted it all
Stood at the mountain to watch it fall
You brought your burning fire
To the place where trees grow tall
Got daylight in the palm of your hand
Darkness buried in the sand
You've searched all your life
For the Promised Land

And when you got there you felt numb
Stuck on the edge of truth
Looked over the hill
To see the shadows growing in the valley below
The first time you felt yourself stand still

What is it?
What's it all for?
Staring at the place you finally found
But you can't get up off the ground

You have to set your feet on solid ground
Turn your eye to the place where everyone fades away
The place where lost souls stay
And if at the end of the day
You can't move from the place you stand
And if the storm clouds set in
Walk away, head on out
Of the Promised land

Walk away, head on out
Of the Promised land

It makes me think.
Is the beauty of the promised not cognizable by men? There was a German writer (in the classical period of the German literature) writing poems about topics like that. (sorry I can't remember his name). He said that some things we'll only understand when we're death. He mentioned the promised land, the truth....

....well done....

I could of been. But I got the idea of the Promised Land thing as an escape from the real world. The poem is really about a person who is going through rough times, and resorts to drugs as a way out to the "promised land". That was my plan...:)
