a crystal day, a moment lost in time
the palm fronds brush my face
as the sand burning my feet slides between my toes
the dull roar of the ocean, a gentle breeze, laughing friends
all vanish as I glimpse you
like the blue sky holds the sun hostage
you've got my heart, my imagination far more than you could ever know
adrenaline rush, the thrill of your company

I'm just happy with you here
and I could live in these hours forever
tackling you under as the salt water burns my eyes
your gentleness, your kindness
to everyone around you leaves me warm

later, sitting at a curbside table sipping smoothies
you feeding parking meters as they run out
the wind in your crazy hair
that I want to run my hands through...
the sun in your beautiful eyes
holding so much more than you'd like the world to know
your funny stories, the way you make me laugh

an afternoon nap but I'm not sleeping
off to the pool, the cheers, the screaming people
nervous, anxious, ready to go
your 'good-luck' gives me strength
I'm free to swim, to race
and you're there when I finish

back to the hotel
watching the sun set over the ocean
after dinner we all break curfew
being silly, ridiculous, eating pints of ice cream to the point of nausea
playing cards I play dumb and you help me
your eyes meet mine and your comments let me know you see straight through me
I only hope you like some of what you see

it's 3am but I'm not tired
finally we call it a day
to bed but I'm still not sleeping
I want to thank you for the beautiful day
even if it was only in friendship
you don't know what you do to me
but I'm determined to wait
for you to come around
