Location
a dream landscape
The horse rearing, sky falling
and wheeling, rippling with light
from outside. Outside
the circle, a beam shearing straight
and cutting my eyes, my mouth.

Sharp. Sharp stones
beneath my back. Pain
through my head.

My hand is torn.
So close, the dirt, the mark:
black on red.

The voice pins me. Waterfall
of glory, bright sound, splitting
the darkness. Breaking. The air
shatters.

Open

I am open. Naked. Born.
Rising into darkness. Where
is the light? I must
find the light.

Rise

Break me with light.
Mend the broken self
inside this flesh.
Smooth away the cracks.
Leave the imprint
lines of fault
impermanence
on the road.

this was so beautiful to read, sitting here listening to The Verve, drinking some red wine, the air is moist and fresh from rain, the night sky -- warm and sweet with the perfume of spring flowers... thanks, this was perfect for the setting I am in

oh gosh that's gorgeous scatter, I've really missed reading your poetry. wow I'm at a loss for words, this is the type of writing I adore though.

Break me with light.
Mend the broken self
inside this flesh.

thanks so much for sharing

Hmmm that's a large painting...but anyway, I took some of my inspiration from this. It's "Conversion of St Paul on the way to Damascus" by Caravaggio, a painter I like very much. The actual account is in Acts of the Apostles chapter 9.

I like to think about what it would be like to actually be involved in such an event, what it would feel like. I don't think I got that close, but thanks for the nice comments

that's too weird, I was going to say it reminded me a little bit of "Until the End of the World" and what you said about putting yourself in the situation explains why. That's a beautiful painting....I love the way different forms of art can act as inspiration for eachother, my art teacher paints while listening to classical music, and it sounds weird to say but it makes so much more sense to look at his paintings while listening to the music. It's the same way with your poem and I think it just kinda adds to the mystery of both pieces seeing them together. Anyways I love it.
