When your legs get tired

Maybe you should learn
That it’s no crime to stay

Busted silver chain
Locket falls to the floor
Kick it with your feet
As you slip out the door

Eyes in the window
Visible to the trees
Lips softly parting
Singing sweet silent pleas


Now you’re gone again
Back to how it’s been
Pocket full of shame
Who’s the one to blame?


Blame it on the ghost that hides
In beds
In bars
Disappearing in the stars

Blame it on the ghost that loves
My heart
My soul
All the things you know you stole


Making up the bed
Only one side needs it
In the living room
There are no candles lit

The record slows down
Doesn’t have strength to spin
My life has become
Riddled with wine and sin

Shut my heavy eyes
My own private sunset
Maybe you’ve moved on
But I’ll never forget


I am gone as well
I bet you can’t tell
I am not the same
Who’s the one to blame?

The repetitious stanzas; in all honesty were the only aspects of the piece that riled me up the wrong way, even though the pseudo-enjambment was a nice touch, admittedly subtle yet truthfully forceful.

The sentiment however was well conveyed; so I’ll leave my critical disposition aside for now.

Thanks for your comments. They're meant to be lyrics, which explains some of the repetiveness. This is the first thing I've written in over a year, so I'm just kind of glad to be getting back in the groove.
